Don't mean nothin but today when I wrote a check to pay for my lunch I realized that today is the beginning of the Vietnamese, Tet Lunar New Year holiday.
Today is the 40 year anniversary of the beginning of the Tet Offensive in Viet Nam the Republic of.
Sure don't seem like no 40 years.
I got a new CZ AMERICAN in .22 Hornet yesterday wearing their new English Walnut stick, gonna be a K-Hornet real soon. Life is good. God bless America!

A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him "Why do you carry a 45?" The Ranger responded, "Because they don't make a 46."

Ah yes, hanging around the North end of the South, near Da Nang back then. Hard to sleep for all the fireworks.

Wow! I had an uncle and have a father, who were in WWII. I have friends who were in the South African bush war and friends who were in the Rhodesian bush war. (My stint in the army was before the bush war). Now I discover you folks were in Vietnam! I am honoured to be able to chat with you folks. God bless you all!

Forty years...but seems like a nightmare from last night..
and then the reception when we got home was disgusting.
Today the boys are being feted as heros by most sensible people in this country with "thank you for your service to our country" but not back then...spitting and jeering were the norm....May our Lord Bless you and keep you...

I have a theory that goes: the reason our current military is returning with honor is that the hippies have grown up and are embarassed by the way they treated the Vien Nam vets. I call it a remorse hangover and they really deserve it. God bless all you vets.

I couldn't agree more! That big welcome home parade they had a number of years back might of made some vets feel better and that's great. As for me I saw it as an attempt to assuage the guilt of all those SOB's that got caught up in spirit of Hanoi Jane and her pals and treated a lotta people real poorly for serving them As the man said, "No good deed goes unpunished"!!

Don't none of it mean nothin to me except all those fine young men and women serving today. I do believe I could cop a serious attitude at those that would mistreat them today!! Mad I got a nasty old Airedale that could accidentally get off his leash as I walked through the middle of any protests I saw today (I'm sure he wouldn't like em much either).

Thanks to all for your kind words and thoughts. I would expect no less on this site.

Some may be embarassed, but a lot of the bastards are proud of their anti-war stance. They just don't have the balls to pull the shit they did 40 years ago, they couldn't get away with it today. The way we Vietnam Veterans were treated upon our return was despicable. I've gotten rid of a lot of excess baggage over the years, but the treatment we got for serving and dying for our country still pisses me off.

Just dawned on me that I got the date wrong for my Tet. I didn't get in country until `69, so I was there for the `70 Tet. Can't compare the two, because I wasn't there for both.

I sure understand the "attitude". I personally don't have a lot of use for Freedom Freeloaders - people who are physically and mentally fit to serve their country, but choose not to. They always want Something For Nothing.

Well there are a bunch of them in the Bay Area of California and even here in Oregon and up in Seattle, who have no remorse whatsoever....

they are still proud of their hippie dope smoking anti social life style...

When I see a guy my age, or older.. still wearing a beard and hair down to his ass, I still want to go out and beat the crap out of his overweight beer gut ass... or his scrawny 90lb drug abusing fanny....

The hippies who protested you boys and spit on you are the worst generation this nation ever produced....

and where I live, I still see too many who still live the lifestyle.. long hair, smell of smoking dope, need a bath, poor hygene in general, Tye die T shirts and sandals... and they are 60 yrs old...still growing dope in the Oregon wilderness of BLM and Forest Service property...
