Hello members: Savage has been teasing us with this new rifle for over a year now and I still haven't seen one or heard of anyone who has. Has anyone? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Dad, for taking me into the Great Outdoors.

Can't really help you. I was waiting for them to put the Accutrigger in it, but when they finally went and did so, they dropped the .223 chambering as well, which is what I was looking for... Oh well.

If you have to have a single shot then why not get the Model 12 Single shot that comes in .223 Rem., .22-250 and .204 Ruger. Check it out at Savage Model 12. My son just took delievery on a Model 12 Left Hand(not the single shot version) in .204. Now I get to check out the .204 without it costing me. Lawdog

pagris:

IMO, the GunBlast review may be a bit overstated or biased. The near 1/2" groups (how many shots?) with factory ammo, zero description of how the "extra long receiver" supports the barrel (threaded? pressed?), and the statement of "decades of great varmint rifles" is hard to take. Plus he specifically highlights a "solid steel recoil lug"...what else would you use?
It may be a great little rifle, but I wouldn't buy one based on that review.

Not really. Savage rifles ARE that accurate and combined with a great accurate little cartridge like the .22 Hornet it's more than capeable of shooting 1/2" 3 shot groups with factory ammo. If I didn't already own three .22 Hornets I would buy one in a New York second. Of course you may have to stand in line as my local dealer tells me they are having to back order them as demand is so high. Lawdog

Oops, I may have unintentionally conveyed that the humor was in correcting typos...that was not my basis for responding. I apologize for that error, and any humor associated with it.

I still think factory Savages shooting factory Hornet ammo into 1/2" groups is humorous. Notice I typed "groups", to mean more than once (cuz it might happen "once").

Mulerider,

I've seen the Model 12 Savages do 1/2 MOA groups in both 223 and 204 Ruger with factory ammo. I won't claim every single one will, but I have personally witnessed at least two rifles do it several times.

I don't know why Savages get such a bad rap. I agree they're are a bit ugly, the build very nice, specially the newer model 12 SS action.

Actually Savage rifles shoot those kind of groups consistently, group after group after group. Nothing "humorous" about that. You might try one and see for yourself. Lawdog

Okay, my opinion was not specific enough. I own Savages, and the recent production rifles (since mid/early 90's) are way ahead of older (where possibly the bad rep comes from) Savages. Quality control is certainly better.
I was only adding to comments on the unproven Mod 40, not the Mod 10-14 series rifles. And if all of them shoot 1/2 MOA, all the time, well...

But to state (not theorize) that the new Mod 40, shooting factory Hornets, will repeatedly shot 1/2 MOA is likely wishful thinking. I have wrestled with the Hornet (Kimbers to NEF's) long enough to know it can be a challenge. My first Hornet was a Sav 340. And factory ammo never got me even close to MOA, but handloads did.

I hope I'm wrong, but it will take more than one gunrag writer to convince me.

See, I have tried one Savages (more than one).
Maybe I should also quit shooting my 5-shot groups....3-shots should help...2-shots even better!
