Well, I just purchased my first quarter bore. I was almost signing the paperwork for a Ruger, when I noticed a mint Model 700 BDL with Leupold VXII 3x9 for $375! Still pinching myself! I am looking for a recommended starting point with factory ammo. Looks like there is a lot to choose from 100gr-120gr. If the rifle shows potential, I will handload. BTW, this rifle will strictly be used for Mulies, and maybe stand hunting for whitetails.

Why do you want to soil your bore with factory ammo ? Just kidding of corse. But if you get around to handloading for your rem , get yourself a box of 100 grain barnes tripple shocks. You should be able to get 3300 or better and it will floor a mulie real quick. The 115 might be better in your rifle , but I would love to see how they doo on game....tj3006 freedom1st

TJ: I know what you are saying, but I've got too many irons in the fire right now and I'm looking for a shortcut!

IMO the 25-06 is best used with the 120 grain bullets.....yes, the 100 grianers work too but for deer I'm a fan of the 120s! You will soon discover that the 25-06 is among the finest deer killers ever. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I can,t argue with the quality of a good 120 grain .257 bullet. Especilly if you are shooting a standard type bullet, as opposed to a so called premium. I really want to shoot a buck with the 110 grain nosler accubond , from my Roberts. I like the 100 grain tripple shock or partition in the .25,06 beacuse they should hold together at the fast speeds the old 06 case pushes them. When it comes right down to it, deer are not that hard to kill and most likly the bullet that shoots most acuratly in your rifle is what you should use...tj3006 freedom1st

Worked up a load for my tikka in 25/06 last year with the 110 accrubond.Took a nice 15 in 8 pointer at 80 yds,hit behind shoulder went about 12 yards and down. Was wanting a longer shot to try out the 25/06 maybe next time.Took 3 with a muzzleloader at over twice that distance. I got this load from another member on here and it worked great.

To the original posts, I wonder how Rem would have fared with a '26-06' ?? It sure has a nice sound! Better to me than 6.5/06 Nah, not going to happen, named '26' anyway as ammo would end up in 25 bores, with nasty results if they chambered. Yeah, I seen a few 25/06 shoot, and shoot they did, even a Ruger #1 I owned, the other two were 700s, mild recoil, even though the blast would make you fear worse.
