Hi!

I am searching a well-proven load for a .22 Savage Hi Power (5,6x52R) with 70 gr Hornady SP bullet and using Hodgdon H322 powder!

Can someone please supply me a corresponding load data recommendation?

The problem with the 22 Hi Power is that it uses a .228" bullet rather than the common .224". It might be possible to bump a cast bullet up in size, but proper sized jacketed bullets are few and far between.

Yes, I am aware of the different bullet diameter but I am just looking for specific already testet load data with H322 in that cartridge and a .228 70/71 gr bullet...

One of teh issues with the Hornady bullet is that it is too long to stabilize properly in Savages and other slow twist rifles. It was designed for the 5.6x52r which has a faster twist. I made what is essentially a trip die and file the nose off to a length where the bullet stabilizes.

As for H322 loads, sorry I can't help as I use either 3031 or RL15.

Most of the commercial loads available today for the 5.6x52R are 70/71 grain soft points (S&B, Norma, RWS). Are you saying the bullets from Hornady are longer than those in these commercial loads?

Though I have fired all the loads you mention I never bothered to disassemble any other than by firing.

What I am saying is that those loads are made for the 5.6x52R which has a faster twist than the .22 HP. The cases may be the same but the 52r specs a faster rate of twist.

Many older 22 HPs do not stabilize these loads well.

At any rate, the old factory US 22 HP loads I have use a shorter bullet than the Hornady and, I suspect, RWS, S&B, and Norma loads do.

Mike: While I do not own a Savage Hi Power, I would like to. So please let us know how you do. I believe, I would start with a light load with the powder you want to use. I mean something that uses H322, and has a similar case capacity and work up from there, provided your rifle is in good shape and all that stuff. Another thing you should do, is call Hodgon and talk with them, they are a wealth of information.

Best of Luck

Guys I justed asked my buddy and actually his rifle is a 5,6x52R therefore the hornady bullet will fit...

Meanwhile I did some research on the H322 and found a load on loaddata.com but have no access...

Maybe here are some members who could post the data - H322 load
