Hi all,

I ma busy messing with a new Tikka in this calibre and have been battling to get a really accurate load with 140gr Hornday IL and VV N560.

This weeks project is using 129gr Hornady IL and RE22.

Has anyone here used this combo in a Tikka T3 and what was your favourite load and COL?

Thanks in advance

Not with the Hornady IL, but with Trophy Bonded Bear Claws I get consistent .5" groups from four different rifles;

46gr RL22
Federal 210M primers
Lapua cases
2.950" OAL

This is a standard book load, but work up carefully in your rifle.

With the 130gr Berger VLD's and Swift Scirroco's 50gr of VV N560 works great out to 1,000 yards in the same guns.

Thanks for that.

46gr RE22 is about (very mild) book max for 129/130 and I was hoping it would give me good accuracy.

I have been using 49 grains of RL22 and the 140 grain Speer in a Winchester Featherweight for years. In the Norma brass this load does not develope high pressure signs however the rifle is very long throated and the bullets are seated way out. I don't have the OAL handy right now but the loaded cartridge is very long. I wouldn't try this load in a short throated rifle.

I tried 47gr RE22 with a 140gr Hornady SP and ended up with 0.6" groups. Velocity from the 22.7" Tikka was only 2512fps average but I am happy with this.

I have the same Rifle. Mine is CRF. The tightest group I have so far is,
Norma Brass
Fed 210 Primer
RL-22 @ 42.0 to 44.0 grains
Barnes 127 gr LRX BT @ 3.020 Col.

I think I will need to have a re-crown job done Frowner

Do any of you guys use a mag primer with RE22 in the 6.5x55?

I have been using CCI 200's without a problem but am thinking of trying CCI250's for my 120gr TTSX loads that will be used in colder weather.

My Steyr in 6.5x55 never shot worth a darn with 120gr TSX bullets. The best combo for my rifle was 47gr of reloder 22 with the Berger 140gr bullet, one ragged hole at 100 yards. I have heard from a number of more experienced loaders and shooters that reloder 22 and 140 bullets is a very tough combo to beat. I concur. FS

It may be a marketing vapor BC that is worthwhile only after 400 or 500 yards.

As it turns out the 140gr/RE22 and 129gr/N560 combos are incredibly accurate!

I posted some back (as I recollect) the need for a high velocity, accuracy load for the 6.5x55. My Rem Classic is also very accurate, but the velocities are disappointing, and I wanted something for 850 yard shooting. So, again, any (accurate) high velocity loads? The 6.5 after all, is supposed to be a very accurate long distance round.

I too shoot a Tikka T3 (Lite/SS) in 6.5x55 w/Leupold VXIII 2.5 x 8. My current loads are: Norma brass, WLR primer, 125 gr Nosler Partition w/47 grs of H4350 for 2896 fps and 140 gr Nosler Accubond w/52 grs of H1000 for 2734 fps. Both loads put 3 into 1" @ 100 yds and both shoot to the same POI at 100, will see if they do @ 300 this year.
I use Hodgdon Extreme powders because here in north central Mississippi temp. can range from the teens to 60/70's in the same week.
I really like my Tikka, I call it my old mans walking rifle. I wish they'd import the T3 Lite/SS in 9.3x62. The 6.5x55 and 9.3x62 would probably make my 2 rifle US battery.
