With the recent purchase of a Rem 700 CDL SF Limited Edition in 260 Rem for my 18 yr old daughter, I've decided we should "both" shoot 260's. I really like hers. The published weight is 7.5 lbs but hers weighs 6.5; nice!
I'm tempted to buy another just like hers but I stopped by our local Cabelas the other day and really took a liking to the Kimber 84M Select Grade in 260 Rem. I've read some concerning things about the Kimber's and wanted to get the boards experience, opinions and suggestions. I really like the CRF.
I've also thought about the CZ 550 American in 6.5x55 but the thing is so heavy; 8 lbs! I'm selling my CZ 550 American in 9.3x62 toot sweet; love it, have zero use for it now that I'm back from Alaska and it got to shoot a Utah elk a last weekend, thus my knowledge about it's weight. Any other 6.5x55's to consider?

I would go for the one with the fastest twist rate: the Rem CDL has 1:10" what does the Kimber have? I have seen some nice loads which require 1:9 or 1:8 to work.

That Lipsey ltd issue, FS, Stainless Ruger looks interesting. I just got the 7-08 and would also like the 6-55. Gun budget is tapped though. It is a neat rifle. Have no clue how it shoots.

i have one of the little kimbers in 260. it took a bit before i got it to shoot well - had to bed the action - but now it does OK. dream to carry. my cz 65x55 is quick a bit heavier.
2nd the Browning low wall... 130gr. .595 BC Berger VLD's with a stiff load of H4350 through that 24" barrel is an eye opener both on paper and in the field.

I've got a Kimber 84M Classic in .260 Rem. It has a 1:9 barrel. It doesn't like factory 140gr loads. I loaded up some 129gr Hornady Interlocks and it shoots very nicely now. It's a joy to carry around in hilly terrain.

Both my 260's are 1-8 twist. An Encore barrel from MGM and a LH Micro-Hunter A-bolt that I had re-barreled. Embarassed as I am, I've not had much of an opportunity to spend time behind them yet.

If you want really classic in a .260, find a Remington M-7 (MS), the custom shop clone of the original Mannlicher-Schoenauer M1903 model. The .260 clones the 6.5x54mm cartridge, and Remington did the rest. My M-7 (MS) loves plain R-P factory 140 grain loads, shooting them so well that I gave up handloading for the .260, and sold off my other .260 Rem rifles. Did I say that the .260 lays down Texas deer on the spot? LLS

If you want to really do it right buy the rem cdl sf again and buy yourself a jewll trigger, and a hs precison stock. Tell your friends you had it custom built. They will never know the difference in the woods or at the range.
They're both good rifles, it kind of comes down to if you want PF or CRF lol. Personally, I'd probably opt for the Rem, as its lower price would let me spend more on the scope.
If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

I've got the Ruger Mark II compact with stainless barrel and laminated stock in .260 Rem. Really like it. It's got a 16 1/2 inch barrel with a 1 in 8 inch twist. I'm probably losing some velocity because of the short barrel, but its a joy to carry and handles really fast. Those were the primary reasons I selected it. It shoots 100 gr. Hornady sp. just fine. Zeroed at 200 yards, mine are 5 inches low at 250 yards, so I'm not going to shoot super far with this short barrel. I just use it for coyotes. Like any Ruger, I had my gunsmith adjust the trigger more to my liking. The stock is also shorter on the Ruger compact so I put a straight 6x weaver on it because the straight power scope is shorter from the back ring to the eye piece than a variable power scope. 260 Rem is a great cartridge in whatever rifle best fits your taste.

why would anyone buy a 85 finnlite? sure they are a nice rifle but the cost!
I just trued a remington 700, stuck a lilja barrel on it and sat it in a mac stock.. came out cheaper than the cheapest 85. and average for average, what i just built will shoot rings around a sako 85. Idont understand why more people dont go this route. you can interchange the action with whatever takes your fancy. plus the gun is built to your needs.
Id like a sako however, but the cost of one just forces me to go custom.. oh well
for what its worth, id go the t3 lite in 260 if i were you

Paul, why my son has a Sako, and not a Rem 260, I had a bolt handle break off a 700, and I'll not go thru that again!
9 twist will stabilize some 140-142, load/bbl length depending, but 130 accubonds down good to go, and will do any deer size game in handily.
Short Rugers handle great, I'd rather not take the blast so close to the ears, would be more an issue than velocity loss.
Gun fit is very important, if the gal likes the Kimber....no reason it would not be what she needs. Hear spotty reports on satisfaction in accuracy, etc. but sure Kimber will stand behind it if you open your wallet.
I have a Cooper 22 Phoenix .260 Rem with a 26" and 1-8' twist and LOVE it but, it is way to nice for doing deer drives and to lug thru the brush. So I bought a siligtly used Remington M-7 youth and reworked the triger and polished up the bolt, got a HS Stock for it and it has a Lepold VX-2 1-4X20 custom on top of it. Is right around 5.75lbs all set up am going out tomarrow moring to shoot it...
