Thinking I really need a .22 PPC to kill paper targets even deader. I currently have .222, .223, and .225. Is/are there advantages the .22PPC has over my current calibers? (not counting my lust of course)

in all practical sense -no - but if you are good enough to be inthe top benchrest crowd then -yes - but if you're going to go shoot up pd's then there is a cost advantage if you are going to us factory ammo - then 223

No advantage at all but if you want one, I say "Buy it!"

I have had several and still have one, a Sako A! hunter.
The others were also Sakos and heavy barrels. I used them for prairie dog hunting.
There were very accurate, but not the ,1" type of groups. That may have been my fault.

They are fun and unique and certainly a fun varmint caliber. But brass is not so easy to find and its quite expensive.
I am keeping my remaining sako 22ppc. It goes coyote calling occasionally and works well for that.

My 22ppc is an a sleeved 700 rem with a 24" Hart, 1.25" dia. barrel, 2oz trigger, and a benchrest 3" fore arm stock. I did not go tight neck because I use it for prairie dogs and I hate turning necks. It shoots V-max or TNT's under .5moa with ease, with most groups in the mid .25 to .35 range. I have a 223 set up the same way that comes very close in accuracy, but in head to head groups the 22ppc holds the edge and has shot more groups under .250.

I don't know what rigs you have in the 222 and 223 calibers, but a Rem 700 HB or even a Rem 788 in 222, or a Savage 110FP in 223 should give better than 1/2 MOA with match bullets and suitable case prep. The 22PPC will be better given a heavy rig, 2oz trigger, straight line bullet seater, extensive case prep etc. and a 36X Weaver scope!Take your pick. Do you want to shoot or prep cases!

I shoot Norma brass, trimmed and uniformed primer pockets. I do the same with any 223 etc.
So I would secure a quantity of brass before building a 22ppc.

I enjoy my 22PPC because it gives me something interesting to play with. Many of my cases are made from 7.62 X 39 brass. It becomes a little bit different cartridge than the ammo made with Norma brass and you can use Large rifle primers.
old The 22PPC , stand on its own, is not a superior cartridge than the .223. wave roger beer
