Went to the range today to try to fine tune an existing load for the .243WSSM. What an awsome caliber. I've been loading 47.5 grains of Win760. It shoots a 1/2" group at 100 yards. When I shoot this load at 300 yards, it's not so good.....about a MOA. So........I shot a 300 yard ladder

Loaded a 10 shot ladder today from 48.2 gr down to 46.4 grains of Win760. Here's the entire ladder.

Shots 7 and 8 (47.6 and 47.8 grains) basically 1-holed. Shot 9 (48 grains) was good with only horizontal dispersion. Here's a closer view....

I'm going to bump up the load to 47.7 grains to split the difference.

I've got 500 of these 70 gr Nosler B-tips and am going to shoot this really fun looking "sporting rifle" match at NRA's Whittington Center here in New Mexico in Raton.

This has got to be as much fun as you can have with your clothes on!!!!!!!!!!!!

I shoot Sporting Clays (a shotgun sport for all you persnickety rifle boys) and it rules all the shotgun sports. The Sporting Rifle match will be my first rifle match and I'm just as fired-up as if I was going to Nationals (The Sporting Clays National Championship).............................

Has anyone ever shot a rifle match like this "Sporting Rifle" match or is it something completely new to the sport? I'd like to hear your experiences!

Nice ladder work!

I checked out the link and that looks like a helluva great time. I'm about 3 1/2 hours from Whittington and have been itching to find a reason to go there, this may be it.
I didn't notice on the website but what are the sizes of the targets?
I'd like to hear more about it lets make sure you give a full report upon your return.

Snellstrom-

I live in Albuquerque. I'm about the same distance as you are away. Try to make the March 1st shoot. I'll be there unless something crazy comes up and I'll let you know. If you want to shoot together, PM me and let me know. I'm guessing you shoot in a squad kinda like skeet or sporting clays.

You're right; it's got to be fun.

The rules and literature say you just need a rifle that shoots MOA so I'm assuming that the targets are at least MOA (probably bigger so folks can have fun).

Whittington has ranges that are found nowhere else in the world. You should get there. They have sillouettes out to 1200.....

I don't think the bullet I laddered is the one I would shoot if I was serious about the long range game, it's just that I have 2- 500 round boxes of them. It'll be good enough to have some fun.

I won't be able to make the March shoot but maybe a later one like April or May. Never shot competetively either but this sounds like fun. I'm near Colorado Springs so I am estimating a 3 1/2 hr drive, I've been by the Whittington Center many times and always wished I'd had an excuse to go on in, this may put me over the edge.
Now I have to start thinking of what rifle to get tuned up for this?

I think it's like sporting clays.

Depending on how serious you are, you can probably just bring your hunting gun. If you have chronographed your bullets, you can go to:

http://www.eskimo.com/~jbm/cal...asic/traj_basic.html

At this site, you can print out a trajectory card complete with clicks needed for your scope to hit the distant targets.
