Its their short action.. but it is a generous sized short action.... Ruger also chambers the 6mm Rem in a "short action".. but they chamber the 257 Roberts on there 30/06 action length... I have an early model 77 Ruger in 220 Swift. It is one of the best performing rifles I have ever owned. With 38RL15/55BT it is a one holer. The only problem you may have with a Ruger is overall length. I shoot ONLY 55 grain Ballistic Tips in my Swift, and have adjusted the magizine to accomodate my oal's. Once you establish the oal for your rifle, you can cross that bridge. If I were to build a custom Swift, I would NOT use a short action, just so I could seat whatever bullet where ever I wanted. While I haven't tried the 40 BT's in my Swift, I am sure they are great performers. Sounds like you have your rig set up for just what you need. For a while the Swift was the only varmint rifle I had, so it got the crap shot out of it. In 1995 I had Ruger rebarrel it, the throat was gone, when I got it back it shot better than the 1973 barrel. Now, I own enough rifles where I can shoot a particular cartridge for a particular bullet weight so I stick with the 55's. Good Shooting Jerry NRA Benefactor Life Member | |||
