I have to pare down my covey of varminters. I have some others I will definitely keep, and some more I will definitely sell. But, all of the following are in NRA 97-98% condition, and all but one must GO.

Question:
Which .ONE of the following would you keep?

Choices:
.22 Hornet TCR '83
.22 Hornet Brno single shot, very fancy wood
.22 K-Hornet BSA Martini Cadet, ugly, but .5 MOA
.222 SAKO L-46, less than 50 rounds fired since new
.223 Browning Micro-Medallion ANIB
.225 Win M70 Varmint with heavy factory barrel
.22-250 Rem M722
.220 Swift Ruger No. 1-V
.220 Swift Ruger M77-V flat-bolt
.220 Swift Riedl falling block (VERY rare)
.17 K-Hornet Kimber of Oregon Super America
.223 Bushmaster fluted stainless Super Varmint with extra 7.62x39 upper

AC.

I thought about sending you a pm, but when I tried it said that you were not accepting PM's from me. So I'll publish this here. I don't know if I've pissed you off in the past or you don't want folks knockin' on your door. "Quien Sabe" as the Mexicans say. Anyhow..............

FWIW, it's late, had a couple toddies, and here are a couple of thoughts from an old fart that may be on the same wavelength. I've not said it here before, but I've probably sold 40 rifles out of my collection over the last two years. I still have about 40 centerfire rifles remaining in my collection. I have listed them all on paper. I start to enumerate the ones I can let go of. I can only think of a few reasons for selling, most of those being the ones you listed. But when I pick them up, fondle them, take pix of them in order to put them in the AR classifieds, 24hour, or gunbroker, somehow it just doesn't seem to happen. Perhaps you'll have more luck than I.

Now as far as voting in your poll, just couldn't do it. Not having seen the rifles, and given my particular biases I could not decide between the Sako and the Kimber Super America. I've not seen your l-46 222 Sako. However my heavy barrel Vixen in 222 will be one of the last in my collection to go. The Kimber of Oregon in the super America probably ain't no slouch either. I have a Browning micro medallion in 7-08 that has been tweaked. It will also stay for a while. But it's not stock and it is one of a kind. Good luck in letting yours go.

Best

A-C,

I voted and for the L-46 Sako, too - nice Boomer.

I'm down-sizing my collection also and Yes, Martha it's difficult to let those Safe Queens go but you gotta be strong and let 'em find a new home where someone else can use them.

lol

Cheers,

A heavy barrel Sako in .222 would also be my choice - as sad at it would be to see the other ones go...

The last option was the only one suitable for all varmints, including the two legged kind.

Sako L-46 in 222Rem? You need to send that one to me, I would always have rack space for that rifle.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

Was going to go with the Bushmaster, but... you are waaaaay to old to be bending over and picking up cases. rotflmo

So, the obvious choice was the 22-250 M722. tu2 You can load it normal or down load it as you desire. Then when it does become time for your wife to sell it, she will have better luck moving it out than some of the other ones.

I voted for your Rem. 722/22-250 for I am a big fan of that caliber. My personal 22-250 is with Ruger No. 1 rebarreled/Douglas 26" with twist of 7. I prefer the heavier bullets and handles the 69MK's up through and including the Sierra 90's as well. Mounted like new Unertl 16x scope on it and makes for a fine varmint rig.
I do indeed like the 22-250 caliber and with the heavier bullets does very well in the wind.

I don't recall you ever irking me in any way.

I am also not certain what goes on in my computer either. Sometimes right in the middle of writing something, a page I wasn't even interested in or aware of will pop up & take over my screen. It's as if Gremlins and their poltergeist offspring live in this thing.

Tried to find where the ignore list is, so I can check to see if you somehow got on it, and take you off if you are there, but I can't find that either.

Anyway, thanks for your response, and hope whatever is going on didn't insult you.

I voted for the Sako .222.

Ever since I can remember those little things have been a turn on for me and they still are.

Keep whatever you like, but by all means sell the Sako L46, as I'd like to have a shot at buying it. Big Grin

And by the way, thanks again for helping supply me with the 7x33 Sako ammunition a couple of years ago. If you want to get rid of any more, be sure to drop me a line. tu2

AC,

I've been married to the same woman for about 34 years, have had business partners, and as many as 150 tenants, many deadbeats (partners and tenants that is). It's pretty hard to insult me.

I was just commiserating, or sharing your pain/mindset at disbursing your colletion. Sometimes I do that privately rather than in public. I know it's crazy to get so attached to inanimate objects, and it's really hard to let some go. Each and every rifle that I own has been scoped, tweaked, specific loads developed for it which are not shot in another rifle (yeah I know that's anal) and sooner are later it is hunted and game is taken with it. For years I kept a record of every animal shot, the name of the ranch, what rifle, what load and at what distance. I keep all the targets I shoot with details of each one. So when a rifle follows someone else home, it's like saying good bye to an old friend.

To me the TCR 83 in 22Hornet is the only really unique and decent action in the list. But then I just like the TCR83's.

I do exactly the same. I find it especially tough because some 35 years ago I decided to keep only ones which were/are exceptionally accurate shooting examples of their kind.

So every one of the rifles on my list except the Valmet DR and the Bushmaster (both of which I had already pretty much decided to sell) are real "shooters". That and the work I've put into learning their ways and wants makes it double-tough.

I didn't vote, as I wouldn't be able to get rid of either the Sako 222 OR the Win 70 in 225 Win. Most of the others I could drop without shedding a tear.

But life's too short to have to be forced into parting with either one of the above rifles.

I would keep the .223. A great varmint round and also a fine deer caliber in the hands of a shooter.

AC,
You are really just torturing us right?

I would have a tough time getting rid of the
Sako 222
225 Winchester
22-250 722

The rest would be easy.

I'd have trouble getting rid of any of these...

of course you have a lot of instant buddies on the forum here that would happily give them a new loving home....

I passed on a Sako 222 with a Mannlicher stock, ala about 1960 production when a Doctor friend of mine passed away.. his wife offered it to me.. but I turned it down, due to knowing what it is was worth, and considered it an heirloom for their family, even tho he and his wife never had any kids....

as a young man he picked it up before going to Australia for 2 years to work on a sheep station in Western Australia in 1960 and 1961....

I'd have trouble with any of the single shots listed. I had a TCR83. I sold it and wish I hadn't. The falling block intrigues me, also the Brno. If I had to make a decision between the rest or any of these three, I'd have to see the little falling block first but I'd keep the 83
