I am interested in building a Ruger # 1 in
6.5x55 Swedish. My queries to Sturm, Ruger
and Company about building one to my speci-
fications have been rejected because they
do not have a custom shop. Has anyone out
there ever had one built? If so, how does
it shoot? Were there any special problems
in having it built? Is it possible to buy
an unbarreled Ruger # 1 action?

Ruger does not sell unbarreled actions.

If you're going to rebarrel a #1, use someone with a LOT of experience making them shoot!

SSK Industries is an outfit that I trust.

Consider the 25.06 off the shelf! I love mine.

Get a worn out .243 and rebore it to .260 Remington. The ballistics are the same. There are a couple of alternate chamberings, the 6.5 Redding with a 30 degree shoulder, and the 6.5 American, with a 40 degree shoulder. Either of them ought to equal the .256 Newton.
