Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum, so excuse me if this question has been asked before.

Have any of you loaded/shot with 130grn scirocco's out of your 260?

How good are scirocco's on red deer/whitetail size game?

What are they like for accuracy?

What are your top load's/powders?

What kind of velocity can I expect out of a 24" barrel?

What twist rate do they need to stabelize them?

All replys wellcome

I've considered the Sirocco II 130g .264 bullet for my 6.5x55, but haven't used it yet, primarily because I can't convince myself it's necessary. I like and appreciate bonded core bullets that keep the core and jacket together against stresses of pretty high velocity, but I can't drive a 130g Hornady Interlock high enough to reliably separate the jacket, so the Sirocco II is, possibly, overkill, and more expensive than the Interlock. I'd have been happier if Swift had introduced it at 120g or under.

That being said, from what I've read, the Sirocco II takes the middle ground of hardness. The Interbond (not that there's one yet in .264") opens fastest and penetrates least, the Accubond (also not in .264, but soon) opens slowest and penetrates most. Sirocco II opens medium and penetrates medium.

If you search the forum, you'll find some mixed reviews on barrel fouling.

While I have never shot the 130 gr. Scirocco's I have shot the 130 gr. Norma match bullet from 2 of my 260"s. One with a 24" barrel the other with a 25". Both are 1 in 8 twist Krigers. A 1 in 9 twist or better will stablize it. Velocity from those barrels ran 2880 to 2900 fps accurately. H4350 is the powder I use in Remington brass with CCI BR-2 primers. Maybe this will help some.

You might want to try the either the 120 Sierra ProHunter or the 120 Nosler B.T. I use IMR 4064 with 120 gr. Sierra in Remington brass with a Fed. 210M. Between 41 and 42 gr. should give good accuracy with velocities around 2950 to 3000 fps. With the 120 Nosler B.T. I use H4350 in Remington brass again with a CCI BR-2 primer. Try around 45.5 and 46 gr. Velocities should again run 2950 to 3000 fps. Both are deadly on deer size game. RL-15, or VitaVouri N540 and N550 should work as well.

I can't comment on Sciroccos, never shot them. I've heard (no first hand experience) that they were not that accurate in some rifles while being very accurate in others. I generally stick to Interlocks and Partitions. In fact, I have to develop loads for my .260. Got a box of Rem brass, 129gr Interlocks, 125gr Partitions, and some H4831 and IMR4350 to play with stir

I have used the sierra prohunter 120's in my 6.5 x 55 with Viht 160, 2950fps, knocked over the red deer a treat.

The 130 Gr Scirocco should be more of the same and a little extra velocity won't hurt either...Rusty.

James, 45.0 grains of H414 and the 120 SIERRA ProHunters seems to be a load that works pretty well in no less than 3 different .260's I've tried it in! 20" Model 7, 24" BDL and 26" VLS!! GHD

If you want to try 120s, see how 45gr of IMR-4350 works with them. With 120 Nosler BTs the combo works well in my 260 40xb. Neck sized Remington brass, Federal 210M primers seated to 2.86"

I have'nt tryed an Scirrocos in 6.5.I have used them in 7mm + 30 cal. While performance was adequate,I could'nt see any appreciable advantages to justify the cost over the Noslers,Hornadys,or Sierras.
