I posted this in reloading but I thought I might want to try here as well.Just ordered/commited to my new long range P-Dog rifle and would like some input from anyone shooting a fast twist 6BR as I can find little load data. The rifle details are

Lilja 1.200 HV taper 6mm – 8 twist to finish at 28"
Rem 700 SA LH Action complete truing, Holland pinned lug
Chamber to 6 BR .271 neck for Lapua brass throated for VLD's
Jewell HVR 8oz trigger
H-S Precision stock bedded and floated

I'm going to use Lapua brass and will start with 90 or 95gr Bergers and the 95 or 105 Lapua Secnar's. I will also use Match small rifle magnum primers. Does anyone have any powder or starting load recomendations. I have ordered the Lapua reloading manual which should have something but does anyone else have suggestions.

Starting with 90 grain bullets you could use something like h322 starting around 20 grains and after fire forming your brass to your chamber which will probably take 2 to 3 firings for the brass to match your chamber at that time you could send three cases to Harrell's and have a die made to fit your chamber so you won't over work your brass and be able to use it a long time. The other powder that would work is AA2460 at about 24 grains starting. After the second firing you could start increasing your amount of powder. Federal match primers work great 205M, the "M" stands for Match not Magnum. With that small of case I would not use a magnum primer. Seat the bullet into the lands. this does two things, it pushes the case back against the bolt face so your fire forming is done correctly and centers the bullet in the center of your barrel for better accuracy. Hope this helps, didn't mean to write a book.

That rifle ought to be very accurate!

Sierra has a section on loading for the 6mm BR in their manual.

60 grain hp @ 3300
70 grain hp @ 3200 - 3250
80 grain sp @ 3050

I know a long-range NRA prone shooter who uses the 6mm BR for 600 yard matches and does very well. Bullet favored is the 107 Sierra, which does well with the 1:8 twist.

Good luck with your project, it sounds like a winner! Guy
