I just picked up in trade a Sako L57 4 digit serial number 99xx, serial number on reciever matches the bolt, it's high gloss finish, in fair shape, stock has good checkering, but appears it may have been shortened. A recoil pad has been installed (not very well) and it is chambered in 22-250. Checkering is in great shape. I'm not sure the barrel is original....any idea on when it may have been made? The tigger may be the smothest I've ever felt. Was the 22-250 an original chambering in the L57? Were there different grades Any info would be appreciated. I'll post pics as soon as i figure out why the heck photobucket has changed their uploading format.....thanks for the help. I traded a great condition model 7 in 243 for this fair to good condition Sako....how'd i do?

I looked it up a few years ago when I got mine(243). As I recall, the L57 was in production from 1957-59 with only about 10,000 made. I believe it was replaced by the L579 "Forester." It is a beautiful firearm and a pleasure to carry and shoot.

I think 22-250, 243 and 308. I am not sure if there were others.

Thank you Igor......This serial number is 9930 and it is an L57, not an L579 so I'm not sure why the serial number is higher. Are there archives anyplace where the serial number could be looked up?

Hi Keith Some more information available here: http://www.sako.fi/downloads.php And from this PDF http://www.sako.fi/pdf/datatab...dmodelsNumbering.pdf you can see that model L57 has been produced from 14.1.1957 to 9.10.1959 and serial numbers have been from 1 to 10090.
