I dug out a target that I shot May 30-99. Five 105 AMax's into 1.18" at 200 yards, with a Rem 700 Varmint Special 243 glass bedded into the factory walnut stock, now these have a 1:9 or 9-1/4" twist but if it will shoot 105 AMax's like this I see no reason how a slightly slower twist will make a difference. You're not out much to try it.

WV Hill Bill: Hey partner! Love WVirginians! Have a lot of family there, and was born there. I shoot a lot of 105 grain Speers out of 243's. It is my preferred hunting round with that caliber. Not mentioning what brand of rifle you have, both Remington and Ruger have silently changed the twists in their rifles to One in 9 or 9.25. If it doesn't work with the Amax in your rifle ( works fine in one of my 243's in a Model 70 with a one in 10 twist), try loading a little faster velocity ( which would mean more pressure so let you conscience be your guide.) I use a load of H 414, 44 grains. with a 105gr bullet. Velocity is 3250 out of a 22 or 24 inch barrel. The bullet is seated out as far as the magazine will hold it. If you want a long range target bullet, I have had better luck with the Sierra 107 grainers over the 105 Amaxes. Price is comparable. Good luck with it!

I have a 243 with a 1 in 10" twist and was wanting to shoot the 105gr A-max. Has anyone had any experience with this combination? Thanks?
