I am at 64gr H4831 in WW cases with CCI magnum primers, cases neck sized only....not compressed if I get powder in JUST right and tap case gently to settle it down....pretty much outta room, even with the SC. 3720fps at 3 feet with less than 20fps spread if I pay attention. Zero sings of over pressure after at least 6 reloads...accuracy is another thing but I think I am on right track after reading the annealing thread(and some other stuff). I could put 3 shots inside 2-3 inches at 400yds and then spray them out over 8 inches wide on next trip to range. I ran some drop tables at some various velocities and it would appear there is nothing much to be gained by boosting velocity even 100 fps inside 500yds? Am I missing something.....would be inclined to stop where I am at unless there is something significant I am not taking advantage of? Thank you, Mark

You are not missing anyghing, but why struggle trying to get enough H 4831 in the case when there are other powders you could use? Switch to IMR 4831 or H 4350 and you can get it all in the case without a problem. These powders burn a little faster and the maximum charge will be lower. I use 59 grains if IMR 4831 in my 25-06 when loading the 80 grain TTSX. The velocity is not as high as you list, but it is about 3600 fps and the groups are quite good. R Flowers

I AGREE WITH FLOWERS ABOUT THE POWDER. IF YOUR GROUPS ARE OPENING UP AS YOU SAY, HAVE YOU CHECKED THE USUAL SUSPECTS? SCOPE, RINGS, BASES, BEDDING, STOCK SCREWS, COPPER FOULED BORE, ETC MAY NEED TO BE CHECKED. KEEP US POSTED WITH YOUR FINDINGS.

Thanks for the input, pretty much a nube and appreciate it! Think I have the repeatability thing down now at 64gr/3700fps...but do not think charge weights or gun condition had me all over the place. Was more likely the fact I had die bottoming out in press to be "consistant".. if they all are sized to the same point(the stop on the press) they are all the same, right?! Not so much for that die, prolly distorted the thicker cases and did not get enough size on the thinnner ones.....mushroomed bottom of die a couple thousandths in process! I have neck trimmer, do not use it though as I am not sure how to use it when neck-only sizing with a washer on the shell holder? Would make sizing to the stop a possible good thing if all cases had same neck thicknes? Noticed it in different resistance when seating bullets, went right over my head...did I mention "nube"? I also did a horrible thing last weekend....spent some coin on a top notch RCBS Gold Medal Match seater die and horrors of horrors - a Lee hand press, went to range with them and my squished Lee collet neck sizer and stuffed bullets in sameish hole on target. Gun and loading technique pretty well sorted, not perfect but trying. I can get maybe a half grain more powder in(it is a pain though and pushing the limit of compressed..not creeping bullet back out but surprised it is not) and step up to a Fed Magnum primer and thats it, might get 100fps and might blow groups too? [64.5gr H4831SC and WW Mag primer = 3770fps, 15fps spread] Thinking I am maxed out for all reasonable purposes where I am at? Pressure signs with H4350 using max 75gr Vmax data at around 3600fps as noted(nice to see someone elses experience matching mine ) My H4831 loads are over Max for the 75gr Vmax (but listed as short on pressure and compressed for that bulllet) Do not want to chase every last FPS at possible cost of barrel life and/or accuracy....but if somebody has an idea to chase that might get me 200fps more I would be wiling to listen.....anything less is not worth chasing. Load I have is easy on cases and I would think gun, I will be fine with it if you think I am wringing pretty much the most out of what I have to work with. Thank you, Mark

I found an ultimate velocity booster for my 25.06 a number of yrs ago. It's called a 257 wby mag. I was young once too. 60.5 gr of h4831 with a 87 gr hornady. winchester brass cci mag primer. and that was hot! Anything worth doing is worth doing right the first time.
