Shooting a 22-250 with a vmax 55gr. drop @ 500 yards is app. 38". Using a Leupold VXll scope 6-18 with 1/4" clicks. Zero at 200 yards how many clicks do I need for a 500 yard shot?

Hello,
Good rule of thumb is approx. 3 minutes of angle per 100 yards to 700 yards. Now, that is good for the 223, but may be a bit less for the 22-250. Since you are on at 200 yards and wish to get on at 500 yards, est. elevation would be some 9 minutes of angle or for 1/4 moa sights, some 36 clicks. Again, might be a bit much, but close. Come ups from 100 yards to 1000 yards for the 308 performance level cartridges run some 2 moa to 200 yards, 3 moa to 300 yards, 10 moa to 600 yards, 10 moa to 800 yards, 5 moa to 900 yards, and 5 moa to 1000 yards. Again, approx. but will put you fairly close. Good Luck.

figured at a muzzle velocity of 3700. first column is drop second is come up clicks for 8 clicks to moa.sorry not formatted correctly but you'll get a good idea.

Max Point blank range is 336 yds when zeroed at 289 yds.

Hello Mark Dobrenski,
My elevation adjustments for the 308, 155 grain Palma/ Sierra HPBTMK are as follows:
100-200 yards 2moa
2-300 yards 3moa
3-600 yards 10moa
6-800 yards 10moa
8-900 yards 6moa
9-1000 yards 6moa

Total 37moa

These are come ups for 308 w/ Sierra w/ 30" Krieger 1/12 twist barrel w/ initial velociy of 2965fps. I often switched to the heavier 175 or 190 Sierras depending on wind conditions and come ups would vary up to as much as 42 moa. in total elevation. Temperature, pressure, etc. all can alter your adjustments on a day to day basis. These come ups will get you on paper. I always preferred to be a bit low than high on the sighters, if you got any!!!, rather than high for it is hard to determine just where you are going in that event. Hope that clears up any questions you may have.

Maths is my worse thinking subject, but, if he does drop 38" at 500yd and 500yds is 5 moa.,
5 into 38" = 7.6moa and 4 klicks to a moa., = 7.6 x 4 = 30 klicks, Which is similar to what someone else got above.

Jeez it's a while since I shot that far.
