I always try to use enough gun but then sometimes a brainshot works just as good.

I found Vel. Specs of 2776 fps with a 139 gr and 2569 fps with a 157 gr bullet. Judging by what I found doing a google search ammo might be hard to come by? I sent you an e-mail with additional data.

Frederik,
All I could find was:

140 gr....4831 powder....46 grs...2530 fps

make cases out of 7.9 (8mm) brass not 7x57

The original 6.5s are becoming quite rare as most were re-chambered to 8x57

Fred,
It looks to be about a 6.5X55 in terms of velocity, maybe a tad slower. Fortunately, it looks like cases can be made from 8X57 or for that matter 30/06 so that should be easy enough to do, if you can get dies.

The rifle itself looks a little unusual, a bit like a cross between a Mauser and a Mannlicher with its split rear bridge. I imagine it would take some engineering to put a scope on it.

It should be a good bushbuck round!

Thanx for all the info guys much appreciatted looks like cases will have to be made from 8x57 will just need to find out about dies somewhere and hope they dont cost an arm and a leg.

I'm thinking of ending up using it with mono bullets in 120 130gr which should give it that extra speed to be used as a longer range rifle. Scope can be done from waht I seen with one of those they use in lever actions with one mount only. I will speak to my gunsmith here as well.

Frederik,
this is a picture of a Vergueiro that a guide in S.A. was carrying, not a bad looking mount.I have one of these actions that I am rebarrelling to 6.5-250 ( 22-250 case )in a little mannlicher stock, they are a very smooth action.

Well I must say looking at the picture the rifle I'm getting is in perfect condition compared to that one I think it will turn out real nice and yes that is the mount I was talking about.
