I have three Kimber 84M's and one is a Montana in 243. All come with Decelerator pads. These modern soft pads change the recoil equation on all rifles. The recoil will be nominal. Be sure to insist that the new rifle come with a three position safety. There was a midstream change from two to three. The Kimber bases that they charge extra for are not a good design. Refuse to take them and instead order Talley rings and bases.

Does anyone out there own one and give me some comments? I am looking for a lightweight mountain rifle, my one concern with this one -- before shelling out almost $1000 -- is what the recoil will be like on a rifle weighing only 5.4 lbs.

The Kimbers fit me extremely well. I'm 5-11 and pretty thick through the shoulders and have med size cheeks and just under medium length arm. 9.3x62 how do they not fit you are you thinner or what? Recoil with the good stock design to me is about the same as the same caliber in a 2lb heavier rifle, but I'm not particularly recoil sensitive. A buddy of mine who is about 5-9, 170lbs and of slender build shot mine in 308 to answer the same question you are asking. He bought a Montana 308 the very next day. I agree with Savage99 about the Rings and Bases. I have 5 Kimbers now and if I had the money today it would be 6. I think that you will enjoy one if you buy it. Good luck, let us know how you do.........DJ
