For all of you who wonder, E.R. Shaw barrels are GREAT: at least the one I just received is!
I shot my 220 Swift today with two loads; one IMR4064 and one RL15. The 4064 calipered .376 and the RL15 calipered .326 at 100yds. The barrel is still green so I think it will get better. The barrel is a finished 26" threaded, chambered, and crowned for a Savage 10fv.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!!!!!

My 6mm Ackley ER SHAW shoots really well...I finally switched bullets and it was a good choice. Trying 95 grain VLD's soon!

Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too!

I have 4 or 5 of them...most recent in 300 H&H. All have been very good shooters and the price/service has been great. Now if they would only make some octagon black powder cartridge barrels...!

I think I will try both Brux and Bartlein next.

My complaint with E R Shaw is time to get one... They are always six months out (or there abouts) and I can get a Douglas barrel in a few days!

Someone in the busness should have common stock on hand!!

Vapodog...You are right..the wait is the downside..I ordered one a while back and Chris said the wait was 8-10 weeks....but I wasn't in a hurry anyway... Mine will be showing up before too long now.

That being said, I have several ER Shaw barrels and they all shoot just fine...I think they are a very good value for the money.

I've never owned an E.R. Shaw barrel, so what I write is from reading about them. At one time Shaw barrels did not have a good track record as accuracy was not there. Then they upgraded their machinery and began making very good barrels. This is within the last 7 years or so. But, every post I read lately has lots of praise for their excellent accuracy.
A side note; I only use Douglas barrels for rifles I want blued, and the accuracy I get from them is excellent. I'll continue with Douglas barrels.

If you want them to install it to your action the wait is even longer.......Thank god I can do it myself!!!

I've used a few E R Shaw barrels years ago.....I'd send them a Mauser action and they install a new bolt handle and drill and tap and install a new barrel and return it to me blued, dirt cheap and in a couple months.......today it's more like 18 months.....I just gave up on them!....as I have said....Douglas is my barrel company..... they work and I can get them and the price is reasonable while not the cheapest!

WinkIf you're playing around with Stevens and other Savage actions the Shaw barrels seem to be just the ticket. If someone is looking for hunting accuracy, the light weight Shaw barrels deliver that PLUS. popcornroger

Lilja does, and I think Pacnor does too. Or, you could do what I do. Order a few barrels now from whomever you wish in contours you know you'll likely use and store them. If you wind up not using them they'd probably sell here on AR.

For all the BAD press the Shaw barrels got here a few years ago from certain members [you know who you are] I have never really had a problem with any of the barrels I got from them. Yeah they used to be cheap and quick but as we all know--a good thing can`t be hid forever. If I were shooting comp then I might consider a Hart, Kreiger but for the average hunting?? Shaw works!! My Shaw barrel on a 223 chamber mounted on a Model 70 is not as accurate as I would like it to be.. so far it has about 1500 round thru it..

the accuracy did improve after about the first 500 rounds.... its diet has been the Blue Dot loads with 55 grain Hornady bulk bullets..

it has proven to be no benchrest rifle by a long shot, and 100 yd groups are disappointing..

yet I get it out shooting sage rats the size of a soda can at distances out to 300 yds.. it does as good as any other 223 I have for results....averaging 75 to 85% kill ratio... which is close enough for gov't work..

I just bought a used .338-06 Mauser with a Shaw barrel, looks unfired. When I shoot it, I'll give forth an opinion.

Shot the .338-06 today with some light handloads left over from another rifle. They were 200 Hornadys and H414, 4 shots went into .805 at 100 yards through a new barrel. I can't see much wrong with that. This was a rifle I bought from a guy on AR a couple or three months ago and just hadn't gotten around to fooling with. The stock was too long, it wouldn't feed at all, cut the stock off, re-fitted the pad and a new follower fixed the feeding problem. It will make a nice truck gun, all I have left to do is mount some studs for a sling. It is a VZ24 in I suppose a Boyd's laminated stock.

Hey Doc

I've got a Brux coming in a 338RUM. It only took about 3 weeks for the gunsmith to get the barrel. Wanted to try cut rifled hand lapped.

I also have a Douglas in 6.5 rem mag and it is a real shooter. I would say it may even be better than my 280AI Hart barrel but I am working on something that may improve my 280AI loads, so maybe that will change.

I would not hesitate to get another Douglas.

I have always had exceptional results with a Douglas or Pacnor barrel. They are also a bit better than most when it comes to shipping times.

I have had 2 er shaw barrels and both shot as good as I could hold them. I would not say they were match quality but good enough for hunting.

Heck I even had one of the Adams and Bennett in a 243 that would stack damn near all factory ammo with in a inch. Some just go together right!

I have never had nor heard of a bad Lothar Walthar barrel...I have been shooting them for about the last 15 years or more now.

I had E.R. Shaw install a .257AI on a commercial mauser action about a year and a half ago. They said 16 weeks and it only took about 12 weeks. That was barrel install, true receiver, and true bolt face. I know they have been getting more business so they may be slowing down. My AR15 also has one of their barrels and I know they had a big contract for M4 barrels from what they told me they were opening up a new shop just to handle them.
