I loaded up 57.0 grs. RL25 with 115 gr. Ballistic SilverTips. R-P nickel case and CCI BR-2 primers. Muzzle velocity from the 24" barrel is 3110 fps. The MAX in the Hornady #5 for 117 gr. & 120 gr. was around 58.5 grs. Anybody know what the max load is in the latest Nosler book for RL25? I wasn't expecting to reach 3100 fps with a load 1.5 grs. below max.

Here are some others I tried.
49 grs. IMR 4350 ~ 3000 fps
51 grs. WXR ~ 2983 fps
55 grs. IMR 7828 ~ 3074 fps

Best accuracy was with WXR, worst with 7828. I will try loading some more with RL25 and try them again.

Anybody else ever try RL25 in a 25-06?

tod, How bad or how good was the 49.0 grain 4350 load? Have yet to see a 25-06 that wouldn't shoot that load pretty darn good with the 117 grain Sierra! GHD

I shoot 60 grs and the 117 Hornady BTSP at 3135 fps and it will go in the low.7`s.IMHO the best all around deer load on the planet bar none.

never saw it listed in a manual I used RL22 data and worked up from there.

The 49/4350 load went around 1-1.25" @ 100 yards, but each shot was +.5 gr. powder than the next. Not bad. The WXR load had 2 in one hole, with the 3rd about an inch out. Again, 3 diff. powder charges. 7828 was about 2-3", and the RL25 load I never grouped, just shot a gong twice. The speed was there, so I stopped at 57.0 grs., and will load up the last three 115 gr. BST's with this RL25 load.

Hey Todbartel:
Did you get any pressure signs with the WXR?
I am working on a WXR load this week with 7mm RM
and 154gr. Hornady's up to 67.5gr. Last Sunday I
shot from 65.0 - 66.0gr WXR with promising groups
and velocities from 3,000 - 3,041 fps. and no pressure signs. I have a hunch that WXR works best
in the lower weight for caliber bullets. I have
seen more pressure signs with the Reloader series
powders than with IMR or Hodgden or Winchester.
WXR seems to work better with magnum primers in my
rifle FWIW! I'll know more this weekend if the
wind dies down! Good shooting. BLR7

Loaded up six rounds today (thought I had only three bullets left, but I forgot about the ones I have to pull apart). 115 gr. BSTs over 57.0 grs. RL25. Average for 6 shots was 3113 fps, and my first 3 shot group was .96", my second 1.84" (one flyer, two close together).

No pressure signs with WXR, the primers had round edges, and extraction was smooth. I think the pressure was pretty moderate. It just didn't give the velocity that 7828, and especially RL25 did. It seems similar to RL22, but gives just a little less speed. At least with the lot #'s I have.

Tod,
If you are looking for more velocity you may want to try H4831sc you should be able to get over 3200 fps with no pressure problems and accuracy should be very good.
I use 54grains of H4831sc at 3220fps in my Ruger MkII 24" barrel. Accuracy with the 117gr Sierra Gamekings is so good I can hardly believe the groups are coming from an off the shelf stock rifle, of course the 20X Leupold scope really helps with those long range groups.
Sounds like you are already getting good results, just some more info for you if you are looking for a little more velocity.

Not looking for more than 3100 fps with a 115-120 gr. bullet in this 24" barreled 25-06. I think RL25 would get me there, but that's somewhere I don't want to go. 3100 fps is plenty. Afterall, factory loads are only rated at 3060 fps for the 115 gr. BST (Winchester Supreme).
