Hi Guys need some help. Is the new 17 Remington Fireball the same case as the 17 MachIV. I'm sure it is but don't have any specs on it. Thanks for the help.

The link is to a early Jan thread on the "Varmint Hunting" section.

I heard the neck is slightly different.

It's wider at the shoulder and base, so MachIV dies won't work. It has a larger neck diameter and a throat like a giraffe. In the words of someone in the gun industry that would know "they just changed the MachIV enough in all directions to screw it all up".
I'm real disappointed and I sure hope that stuff isn't true but that is the word I received. I do know according to a die maker, (Remington told me the specs are classified, jeeze?) it will have 37 thousands free-bore. As Mulerider and a lot of the other .17 shooters know the 20 grain V-Max usually seems to need being set into the lands to shoot well. Again I hope I'm wrong but only time will tell.
On the off chance it isn't wrong I cancelled my order on one of em tell I see how they work out.
To bad they weren't able to just run with the .17 MachIV, it's such a great round.
Remington states brass and such will be unlikely in 2007 so it will be over the counter ammo to start with.
