Does anyone know if a Sako Forester 243 action will feed a 22-250 without alteration? I suspect it will as they were offered in 22-250, but am not sure if they changed the magazine lips. Thanks.

If not it will be close they are (xbothx) XXbasedX) similar to the 308 case. you are talking about a re-barrel? The bolt face is the same. The shell carrier should be the same. corrected for the nit picker' Ill make more correct statements going forward!

Well if you want to go back and say that the 300 Savage 308 all could be based on the 30-06 I might agree. Then you could say anything with a .473 head was as well. 308 came into being in the 40-50s. 250-3000 or 250 Savage in 1915. I've taken MKX mausers with the mag box in the rear and swapped between 243 & 22-250 with no issue. Since I had to do some research to verify my swiss chees brain a new fact hit me. For the last 45 years or so I always viewed the 22-250 coming from necking down the 250-3000 which came from necking down a 300 Savage. I would have bet serious on it. Since the 250-3000 came to being in 1915 the 300 Savage in 1921 just busted my 45year long theory. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

The 22.250 feeds fine from the Savage 243 magazine. Frank "I don't know what there is about buffalo that frightens me so.....He looks like he hates you personally. He looks like you owe him money." - Robert Ruark, Horn of the Hunter, 1953 NRA Life, SAF Life, CRPA Life, DRSS lite

The L-579 and A-II Sako actions for .243 and .22-250 are identical except that the magazine boxes have a crease at the point of the shoulder of each case which is in a slightly different place. However, this is just a "detail" that Sako uses and the .243 box will hold and feed the slightly shorter and more tapered .22-250 case just fine. The opposite might not be true since the crease in the magazine box might crowd the slightly longer, fatter (at the shoulder) .243 case. I've known people who simply hammer the crease out of the sheet metal magazine box and it works just fine with any cartridge of .308 head size and length.

I also did this with no problem. There is ,however, a different feed set up. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

Take the guess work out of it and fill the magazine with 22-250s and see if they feed without any gliches..they will go in as they are smaller..Most folks would suggest removing the firing pin, but I just don't pull the trigger, or make some dummys...I would bet dollars to donuts, she will feed like poop thru a goose. I had a Mexican ranch hand shoot a 250 savage in my Savage mod. 99 243, Sure fireformed the case and stuck the bolt hard enough that I had to use a bar and a hammer in the lever to extract the case that was still in one piece with a very short neck! ..Didn't spring the action so I got lucky there.
