I seem to think I have read about a rifle which is chambered in .22lr but the bore is .177 the idea being the lead bullet is swaged down as it is fired. Is there such a thing? If so what was the idea behind it?

Pete, These were done in Australia but I think they were 20 caliber. Mike

There were a few of these barrels made (forgive me, I can't remember who made them!). It was a taper barrel, and the idea was to up the speed. This particular outfit stopped making them in '99, IIRC. HTH, Dutch.

You should read the information about the .17 barrels here. Look on the left under 17/22 swager barrels. ------------------
