I recently aquired first my Roberts this past weekend. Its a Ruger MK II. I was lookin at loading it with 87gr sierra sp and 100gr Nosler Ballistic Tips with RE 15 and H4895, starting out at 40grs of RE15 on the 87 gr and have not started on the 100s. Any load suggestions on these combinations would be appreciated. I use the heavier 117s and 120s in my 25-06 with good results. I will be shootin the 87 and 100grs for whitetail only, and I prefer to stay with these for the lower recoil if my wife decides to use it.

45 grains of IMR4350 + 100 grain Nosler BT works very well in mine. Winchester brass, CCI BR primers.

In my gals Ruger Ultra Light in .257 Roberts the load that stands out is Sierra 100 grain SPBT's and top end charges of IMR-4064 in WW brass and CCI 200 primers.
I've never had any really accurate results with H4895. Reloader 15 has performed well in other cartridges for me I've never used it in the Bob.

In my rifle I shoot the 117 Sierra's and 41.5 grains of IMR-4350 2800 fps and exceptionnaly accurate.

I use 40 gr. of RL 15 with 85 gr. Nos. Ballistic Tips. Very accurate in a Rem 722. These are mainly varmit rounds but work well on Mule deer 3200 fps.

My favorite load: 117 SGK, 44.0 of H4350. Good for 2,850 fps and 1/2" groups in my Remmie.

My Cali hunting load is 46.0 gr of H4350 and a 100gr. TSX. That one's good for just over 3,000 fps... Good-nuff for my needs!

Regards,

Robert

I have used several of the recommended loads with good results, particularily IMR4064 & 4350. One powder not mentioned that works great that gets over looked is 3031. Nate

This also almost my first Roberts (hate the use of bob for Roberts). When I left for gunsmiths school in 1952 I carried with me a Mauser byf action with a Pfieffer barrel in 257Roberts with a replaced bolt handle with one with a checkered knob. Upon arriving at school I almost immediately got traded out of it. Never had another 257 till a couple of years ago when I had one built by a friend. It's on a completely blueprinted classic Mdl 70 action. Bolt handle has been replaced with a straight checkered one. Barrel is a 22" Lilja 3 groove. I don't think a rifle looks complete without Irons so it has ironsights in addition to a large 4-12 Zeiss. Stock is a rather plain DARK walnut as I really don't like high figured stocks. Pad is Galazan silvers copy with widows peak as has the ebony fore end tip. Load after 20 shot breakin was 110gr Accubond with 38grs IMR4350. 5 shot groups under 3/8" consistently. To say I'm pleased would be great understatement.
