Operator malfunction.

a typical deer rifle with a 2800fps MV sighted in dead on at 25yds will be around two inches or a touch more at 100yards, which is more or less where you want it
to be dead on at 200yards (assume a 165gr 30cal bullet @3000fps for this example)

Do you think a 4000fps plus varmint rifle might shoot a touch higher?

To be dead on @200yds your 204Ruger only needs to be a bit less than 3/4" high at 100yds... See a trend here?

Try sighting it in dead on at 50yards then check sight for about 1" high at 100.

ok I'll try it I have nothing to lose now

Thanks

Take a look at this ballistic calculator. I would guess the 40 grain bullet has a BC of .250

My Point Blank program says 1 in high at 25 yards would be around 7.65 inches high at 100 yards and the zero would be for 575 yards. If your load is reaching the velocity you stated above. Are you using a chronograph?

I kind figured that I was 8" high @ 100yrd, so if your saying that 575yrd I would be right on?

thats not as bad as I first thought.

Thanks again Guys

I always set them dead on at 25yds.
Seldom need to do much. I usually set my varmint guns 2" high at 100yds. and Just est hold over beyond that.

Seldom miss unless way out past 400yds. A p/dog's about 10" tall, so 400yds I hold about one height over and usually nail them first shot with my .223 & 55gr@3000fps.

Mostly, it takes experience in the holdover games. That part Iv'e got.
