I want something new to tinker with, a 22 CHeetah MK 1 is what I'm thinking. I have a Win 70 action I can use or I can buy something more suitable. This is going to be my first wildcat. I think I want a single shot. I dont care about a follow up shot with this one, paper don't run away!

The Win. 70 action was bought new right around 2001 buy me. Seen very little use, this was my "go to" hunting rifle for the first few years and thats about it. It does have a Jewell trigger.

I was thinking a nice Martini, Contender, or something along those lines. I am very capable of doing alot of the gunsmithing myself.

What are the pro's and con's of going eather way? I think any of them are strong enough.

OR.....Is there a wildcat close to the CHeetah that will give me more barrel life? oxymoron?

If you are not building a full competition bench gun, the Winny 70 will be an excellent choice.

I have been reading about the 6/06 alot this morning and that sounds fun also. The Win. is a -06 so it would be a match made in heaven.

Or a .240 Weatherby match chamber reamer.

Forster dies and Norma quality brass.

Now what twist and barrel weight ?
The light bullets go really fast with accuracy but ......

Stonewall,
Those are amazing looking actions. The viper almost looks a little overkill, but then again look at what I want to chamber.

The new 6mm barrel is going on the Win., the CHeetah will get a fresh start.

For my single-shot wildcat I chose a Ruger #3. The #1's and #3's are the same action the only difference being the lever/trigger guard. I have been more than satisfied with the outcome.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!

If I was building a single shot paper puncher, it'd be built on a short action Rem-700 or a Savage action.

As long as it's a single shot.....it can easily handle the long action ammo.

Barrel by Lilja, stocked synthetic or laminated and glass bedded.

Chambered fr the standard .22-250 or 6mm Remington will get you all the speed you can use.

I like the Remington XR-100 single shot action and/or the Savage Right Bolt Left Port single shot action for your project.

IMO an excellent choice for a thrift conscious target action

Just built a rifle on a Savage action and I am really pleased with it...

as much as I LOVE Model 70s, I'd do it again on a Savage Action first!

Ya'll had to give me ideas! Now I'm eye-balling a Savage action, target model with dual ports. And the local shop has layaway sooooo......

I had to drive in there yesterday to have some forms sent and seen it, not too shabby! And I know I asked! Big Grin

The 6-06 has a "cool factor" in some ways, but you would probably be better served with a 6MM Ackley Improved. You won't benefit very much from the difference in case capacity between the two.

I would go with a 6.5-.06. Serious stuff and better bullet selection.

In all honesty, I personally feel you would be better served going with a 6mm Rem, or the 6mm AI, as opposed to a 6-06. From what I see, the gain in velocity with the 6-06 is minimal compared to a regular 6mm Rem. The added powder capacity of the 6-06 does not deliver a corresponding increase in velocity. Sure, there will some added MV, but the costs of going that route far outweigh any velocity increase.
I VIVIDLY remember my Step Father shooting his 25-06 Improved in the late 1940's that he and his gunsmith designed. It had a very sharp shoulder with minimum case neck, so he could pour spoon fulls of 4064 into the case.. His rifle had a 21" barrel, with a full mannlicher stock, a magnificent rifle for sure. But, standing off to the side of the bench while he shot that rifle at dusk was a sight for a 14 year old kid to have indelibly burned into his brain. It was a spectacle to behold, as fire flew out of the end of the barrel at least 20 feet, maybe more. The Aurora Borealis had NOTHING on that spectacle. I'd look over at him, and all I could see was his pearly whites as he grinned from ear to ear. He had his booney hat on, and was a very dark man of Native American origin, so all I could see, and remember seeing, was his huge grin as he sent spoon full's of unburned powder flying in space. He was in his GLORY..

thumb Several years ago I built my own 240PDK it was basically a 240Gibbs with about 3grs more capacity. I saw very little gian over a 6mm at least in a 26" barrel. I quickly shot the barrel out of it. (for sure less than 800rds) and rebarreled it to a 6mm.

As usual just my $.02
