I just picked up some 6.5mm 120 gr. Hornady A-Max bullets for my .260 Remingtons. Anyone use these as a hunting bullet, or is this strictly a target bullet?? How do they hold up compared to the SST or Interbond?? I have been loading the 120 gr. Sierra Pro Hunters and have been happy with the performance. How will they compare??

Never used the A-max in 6.5 for hunting but the A-max in 308 are deer killing machines. A little more meat damage but they get the job done. I do have a 260 that I use the 120gr Ballistic Tip and 40.5gr of Varget with great results. Free men should not be subjected to permits, paperwork and taxation in order to carry any firearm. They are quite lightly constructed, so you'll have to be careful with shot placement. But put it through the thin ribs and into the lungs, and you'd better have your skinning knife ready. It would not be my first choice for a hunting bullet, but it will certainly suffice. Your 120 grain Pro Hunter is more stoutly constructed and gives much better performance on deer-sized game. Well said....I'd rather use the interlocks but every year hunters use A-Max and swear by them....the problem is that we never hear from the hunters that are swearing AT them. They are target bullets and not designed for hunting. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I think the A-Max is probably the best lung shot bullet around.

I've never shot the A-Max bullet but I would think there are so many really good bullets designed for hunting I would shy away from it for hunting purposes.
