Having a problem with a new Weatherby Ultra Light in 7-08. Only fired it a few times, using loads that have worked well in other 7-08's (48 H4350/145 Speer; 43 R-15/140 B-Tip), and, it consistently groups two shots touching, or nearly so, with the next one or two touching, about an inch or so away from the first two, indicating a bedding problem. When I removed the barreled action, I noticed that Weatherby, like Remington, uses two raised bumps at the forend to provide some up-pressure on the barrel. The edge of one of the flutes on the barrel was bearing on one of the bumps, and the other bump was not touching the barrel at all. I'm wondering if I should clean out both of the bumps and just re-bed the forend, try to clean up the bumps enough to get both to bear evenly, or, just free-float the whole thing. Any ideas? Thanx, R-WEST

I would rather have a barrel not touching up front I seem to have better luck with some space there. I would take the bumps out try it if that dosen't do it you can add a little bedding compound then sand it away until you get the right pressure.
