I have heard that the 22-250 kills deer with 70 gr bullets.
I have some loaded for my 22-250 but haven't shot any deer.
Has anybody else?

Yeah about 5 of them with that combo.

I usually load Rl 19 or H 414 for powder, for about 3100 fps.

The bullet I assume you are talking about is the Speer. I have shot Blacktails with them, but they would work well in larger deer I am sure. I consider it the premier bullet to use in 22 caliber on deer. Followed by the Barnes X 53 grain Bullet, which I have also taken deer with.

The 70 grain showed more lethal damage in my book, than did the 22 caliber Barnes. All deer have been taken at under 200 yds.

One caution I experience, was I shot one buck at about 100 yds, that was running away from me, that he had crossed my path on a trail and was startled. He turned away and only gave me a rear end shot. As I have done before several times with success, Is I put the cross hairs ABOVE his tail and pulled the trigger. I have had these shots, hit the spinal cord, or into the lungs before, or even the neck.

This one hit the neck dead center and hit the spine. Deer went down immediately. The head was not really spectacular to mount, but the bullet hitting its spine, came out of his front neck about the size of a dinner plate. Needless to say, instant lethality.

Also dramatic

I will be loading some again for one of my 22/250s this season again.

Good luck,
