I saw new Remington brass for the 222Mag in my local gunshop during the week. Is this still a popolar chambering in USA. I'm thinking of rebarrelling my Sako 17Rem, but still wondering about future case supplies.

Brianwinzor: Good for you and the long lived 17/222 Mag! Have you been shooting the same Rifle/barrel all this time? Any idea what kind of velocities you are getting with that Wildcat? I wish I had not waited (procrastinated) so long before I ventured in 17 caliber land! About 9 years ago I finally took the 17 leap and had a custom 17 MachIV made! I could not have been happier with it! Amazing accuracy, flat shooting, lethal on Varmints, no recoil and easy on barrels and brass! I only wish I had jumped on the 17's sooner instead of waiting for 25+ years worrying about "rumors" surrounding the wee ones! I now also have two 17 Remington Varmint Rifles and I have a 17 HMR Ruger Model 77/17 V. I am very happy with each of them. My 3 centerfires all use the wonderful Berger 25 gr. MEF bullets and they really perform well on all the different sized Varmints I have used them on. I wish you were not getting hit so hard on the price of the 222 Magnum brass! I think I paid about $23.00 per hundred for it some time back. I have a "lifetime" supply of it down in my loading room now. It seems every two or three years a rumor goes around that Remington is going to quit making it! As far as I know they are still pumping it out. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Bad Ass Wallace: Like has been mentioned it is a very nifty cartridge. I have a custom stocked Sako in caliber 222 Remington Magnum. Mine is the heavy barrel Sako bolt action clip fed model. It is splendidly accurate and performs really well in the field. My customized sako 222 Mag has a Unertl BV-20 (straight 20x) scope on it! I also use the 222 Magnum brass in a factory Remington 40X KS model in caliber 6x47. This Rifle IS one of the most accurate Rifles I have ever had anything to do with! The 222 Remington Magnum brass is also used to form the new 204 Ruger cartridge so brass is somewhat popular but the Rifles in this caliber are somewhat rare. I seldom see Rifles in this caliber for sale anymore. When I do they are not for sale long! People in the know snatch them up readily! I would not hesitate to have a 222 Remington Magnum custom made for myself though and I often think this over in my mind whenever I see a Remington 700 short action for sale. Groundhog devastaion: I could not agree with you more! The Ruger Mini-14 is an un-accurate Rifle! Just good for laying down a spray of lead! I am proud to say I have never owned one! I did compromise my morals and risk my reputation and bought one as a gift for my older brother! He had the hots for one and only owns one other Rifle - come to think of it I bought him that Rifle also as a gift when he came home from his second tour of duty in Viet Nam. I had serious qualms about taking on the task of selling this... this... Rifle (?) for my friend! I decided to go ahead and do this favor for him and risk my reputation as he is both a licensed electrician and very proficient Mr. Fixit type. He is always helping me with home improvements and such - so I owe him one. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Brianwinzor: Brian I wish there was some way I could help you out on the brass importation but alas it is a paperwork morass trying to get loading components out of this country! Sorry. My 17 MachIV has the Shilen barrel on it and I have been very happy with it. That is some kind of velocity you got out of your 17/222 Mag. Imp.! Yikes I would like to have seen the Varmints you have hit with that speeding bullet! Good luck on your brass acquisitioning! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
