Anyone have any experience with this one? In COTW it seems to be promising, fun, and effecient. As I understand it, it's based off the 6mm BR case, anyone know how difficult it is to form? Thanks for any and all advice.

Cartridges of the World, 9th, says that in 1992 Al Ashton decided to develope a 1.7 inch 22 wildcat based on the 22-250 due to burning bbls with hot 22-250 loads. Using the 22-250 case was so much work that he shelved the idea until Norma and Lapua started making 6 mm BR brass. (1.56 inch). He shortened the neck length and did an Ackley taper and shoulder. They show some estimated ballistics from 5096 fps with 25 gr to 3593 fps with 75 gr. Pacific Precision has made reamers for the same basic case in .17 cal. Interesting.

I have a 6 Dasher. The 22 is made with 6 BR
brass. You paritally neck it down to .22 caliber until you can just barely close the bolt. You are creating a false shoulder to hold the case in place during fireforming.

It is basically an Ackley version of the 6BR.
Shoulder gets moved forward .125 if I remember right with a 40 shoulder.
There are a couple different versions out there.

Thanks!! Sure sounds to be a sweet little cartridge. Do you have to make the 6mm Dasher from 7mmBR cases then? I would be very interested to hear what kind of performance you're getting from it.

No you still make it from 6BR. I neck it
up to .257 then back down to 6mm to create
the false shoulder.
I can almost duplicate 6mm Ackley preformance
with 10-12 grains less powder. Right now
I'm shooting 58 VMAX's out of it @ 4000fps

How much powder or water does this case hold? Some of the velocities listed here are really great. I have a wildcat that holds 52 grains of stick powder without using a drop tube up to it's neck. I cannot get those velocities. But that's what I am here for, to learn.

Has Boyles law been repealed? How can someone get "almost" the same velocity with 10-12 grains less powder? Maybe a longer barrel, new powder or what? Please be specific.

I'd have to measure it again but I beleive
the H20 capcity is 40.3 grains.
It's a more efficent case design.
In my 6 Ackley it takes 51 grains of 4350
or 49 grains of AA4064 or 50 grains of H414
to push a 58 grain bullet 4000 fps. I can
do that in the Dasher with 37 grains of Benchmark. The barrel is 27" on the Dasher and 29.5" on the 6 Ackley. Take a look at these two pages and check out the load info.
