How about a DPMS upper in 243 or 6.8 SPC?

I have recently bought a Kimberly Montana in .243 mounting a Leupold straight 4X, but have not hunted with it. I notice a fmj is available in .243 but nobody here mentions fmj. Wouldn't that be the best fur bearing critter bullet?

I've handled that Savage Predator, to me it just felt like a bench gun with a camo paint job. Same with the Howa Axiom...just too heavy for a stalking predator gun IMO. If you're sitting in a blind or you have a calling spot where you have a limited line of fire, works just fine. But if the rifle might have to be moved a lot, or you're on foot, I'd like something lighter and handier. Pitty most of the gun makers are forgetting that varmint market. Even the new Savage "light" 25 is a pig best suited for a bench. Again, IMO Big Grin

If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

Abob , that is my fur bullet . but with 21 gr of 4198 . It should be going around 3000 fps but a starting load will do around 2800 fps ...If I could get a 6mm BR in the Ruger M77Mk II VT . that would be my first choice with the Hornady 80 gr FMJ bullets .......... As it is I will go with a 243 with the same bullet moly tumbled at around 2950 fps .. a little more velocity than needed for fox and lynx , but better on wolves ............... Where are you at here ....??? .. I,m loading TSX bullets in my 223 for wolf ...Till I get the 243 and 260 Rem ........ I think an AR would be great , but not with a tight match chamber as in the real cold ., -20 f or colder , the brass may not extract and there you are .. jmo

.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

First thing is that I don't have experience shooting Lynx, wolves, or fox. I have shot coyote (in the head, with a .308. Talk about "face-off). I think I would stick with your Roberts on wolves. They can get alot bigger than 100 lbs, here in Northeastern BC, anyway. I have heard that on a good feed year, with not much competition, a big male wolf can go up to 250 lbs. I can't verify that, but that is not a .223 target IMHO. Maybe a .243 with a deer bullet would do the trick?

Good hunting, and PS, shoot an extra limit of wolves for me. You'll never shoot enough by yourself to affect the population! BOOM BOOM

...

Thats the truth. I know on Revillagigado Is. in SE. Alaska that they get to 150 lbs , and an A.D.F.& G. Biologist in Unit 3 and 4 told me they usually don,t see any that weigh over 225 lbs.........
