The Tactical Twenty arrived safe & sound from Gre'-Tan Rifles on Friday. Greg does great work, if anyone is looking for a smith. Anyway, I have several pounds of H-322 here, and was thought it was in the appropriate burning rate range for this round. Anyone have any load suggestions? I will be using the 33 Vmax. I did some break-in work on Saturday, and was pleased to have a couple of decent groups while fireforming.
This gun was first chambered in .20 Jordan, but that otherwise excellent wildcat would be more suited to a single shot rifle, as it did not want to feed from the magazine in my 700.
If you want to try something new, look into the various twenties.

I for one am looking forward to your experiences. Todds posting about this round has gotten my interest too, but it will have to be next winter at the earliest before I can even think about putting something together. Post more please when you are in a position to do so!

I got out to the range Sunday to fire a few shots & break in the barrel on this new twenty cal. Went back out today, and shot a few nice 3-shot groups, the best being .221", the worst being .411". There was even a fireforming group of .246" Yep, it looks like this thing is gonna shoot.

Essentially it is a 223 necked down to 20 caliber. I guess there can be some variation with people changing the shoulder angle, but that is about it. Someone posted somewhere in here about it, but try as I might I can't find which article it is!
Todd Kindler is VERY knowledgeable about this stuff, look for one of his postings and check out his links for his websites.

Hi Mike, Glad to hear you have got your Tactical Twenty going. Greg Tannel builds a great rifle and is a fine guy , I'm sure your Tactical Twenty will be a screamer! Hodgdon 322 may work out but please try Hodgdon 4198 as well. I just took mine to get ready for woodchucks with ammo from last year and it was moving those hot little 33 gr. Hornady V-Max bullets at 4325 fps and just a "bug-holin". Some are using Ramshot X-Terminator powder as well. Brent, the Tactical Twenty is a necked down 223 Remington with a 30 degree shoulder. It is really proving to be an outstanding long range varmint cartridge. We have had several excellent articles on the Tactical Twenty in Small Caliber News and one is planned for our summer issue as well. Hope this helps.
A hunting buddy and myself went to shoot P-dogs this past weekend near Lubbock, Texas. The new twenty was almost impossible to put down. It was absolutely amazing out to around 400 yards or so, the longest distance attempted with it. Even with fireforming loads the air time after a solid hit was unbelieveable for such a little pill (33 Vmax). If you have had any thoughts of getting one of these neat little rounds, jump in with both feet. Now I think I know why some of the .17 guys are so fanatical about that itty bitty bullet -- smaller can be better when shooting P-dogs.

No, I haven't been able to get out. The last opportunity to shoot was lost on Tropical Storm Allison. I sure do like the twenty caliber, and will do another one soon.

The Tact 20 sounds like a hell of a varmint round. What about a fur round? I mean, is that 33gr Vmax fur friendly? Would it be very good out of a 20 or 22 inch sporter weight barrel? Or would I be better off with a 17 chambering? Thanks, Chris
