I've got an old Rem 722 that I'd like to start load development for... Any bullet/load recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Also I'd like to ask opinions on this cartridges lethality on coyotes inside 150 yards... Thanks in advance guys!

Stick about 27 grains Win 748 behind a Nosler 50 grain BT and you'll tip over coyote at 250 yards nicely. The .222 is still a extremely fine cartridge. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I'm doing well with 40 grain Hornady V-Max and H335. Its the only combo I tried in my Savage 340, It shoots so well I have not tried anything else. I have not tried it on anything but groundhogs and paper Jason

Hornady V'S 50 gn over 23.5 H4895, set 1" high at 100 yds - for Varmints. Hornady SP 50 gn, same powder, strike spot on at 100 - not as slippy as the V's, but less damage. HTH Colm

Jim, My favorite is 20gr. RL 7, 50gr Sierra Blitz, Remington 7 1/2. Don't worry about it ruining a coyotes day. For more data go to: Steves Reloading Data Pages. Stepchild NRA Life Member

Jim, I asked the same question in the varmint forum and got a wealth of information, just recieved my 722 a couple of days ago. Best of luck. I believe in life, liberty, and pursuit of the S.O.B.'s that threaten them.

Jim, Madison reported 19gr. of 4198. you can take that to 21 gr. in the usual steps. I have never cared for BL-C 2, too dirty for me. Stepchild NRA Life Member

I have had several .222's and have used all the popular powders. But the most consistant best shooting powder in all of them was RL-7.

24.0 grains of Hodgen Benchmark behind a 50 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip seated 0.004" off the lands prints in the 1's and 2's in my Cooper M21. Infact, 24 grains of Benchmark behind ANY 50 gr bullet shoots very nicely. Due to the typically slow twist (1:14), my rifle prefers near maximum loads with any polymer-tipped bullet of 50 grains.
