(Posted the same on Big game hunting) - I'm planning to buy one for roe deer/chamois hunting. What is your opinion? Is it really accurate? What is the expected barrel life? Thanks - Lorenzo

Well I know the WBY 257 Mark 5 is accurate so I would think that the Accumark would be also. WBY makes great guns they shoot a little faster and hit the mark. There are some other guys on this form that have the WBY Accumark 257. Maybe they'll speak up.

I'd sure love to have one of them.

Speaking of the .257 weatherby cartridge....I've owned two of them. One in a Mark V and one in a custom Mauser and the Mauser was the better of the two....great gun.... The MarkV didn't do much for me and I've just given up on the weatherby guns. The .257 cartridge is a first class deer and pronghorn cartridge and I'd say the .264 Win Mag is the equivalent and even slightly better. If I was to do another one it'll be a .264 on a Model 70 action!

I can't say nothing bad about my 257 WBY mark 5
That gun puts the bullet right to point of aim.
Any bullet made for it the 120 ,117,100,&87. What more can I say. I know all guns aren't made the same tho.

I can't speak about the Accumark, but the Ultralight in 257 has not boded well with me. I wish I had bought the Accumark.

My accuracy load is 68 gr IMR 7828 behing a 115 gr barnes VLC. averages 3342 fps from a 24" tube. Should go 3400 + in your 26" ultralight.

Mighty Joe, make sure your loads are not overlength. WB's tend to have alot of freebore.

For some reason if you run the bullets out like other guns, close to the lands they don't shoot well. WB's LIKE freebore.

Just a thought.

Oh yeah, Wildboar---smokin' cartridge choice.

Ive got a Weatherby Ultra Lightweight Mark 5 in 25-06 - i went for 25-06 over 257WBY to save the pound in weight. Wasnt that flash a shooter to start with but after i free floated it and glass bedded it the first load i tried with 100 nosler bt went sub inch. They need to be bedded the same way as a Sako if that helps.
I had previously owned a Mark 5 blued/synthetic that i loved - 257WBY rocks flat shooting and nice to shoot - I am seriously thinking of an other one this time on my Ruger no1 - the only problem here in NZ is getting brass - last time i managed to get 270WBY and necked it down
Hope that this helps

Thanks for the input guys.

muzr257; What do you mean bedded like a sako?

Did you have to mill out due to the aluminum bedding block?

I own both the 257 Weatherby and the 25-06 in Remington M700's and a R93 companion barrel. They are both accurate cartridges, but I think the 257 has a little more wallop on the death ray end.

It will kill a big pig or a chamois on a mtn far away. I like to use .257 Sierra Game kings and Barnes X 115 bullets.
