Shawn, either 17 Ackley or Bee will require forming brass. 22Hornet or 218 Bee brass are readily available. You don't say what action you are going to use and I assume from your choice of rimmed case that it may be a small martini cadet or low wall single shot. I have several 17's from 17AI, 17MachIV, 17/222Rimmed and 17 Rem's. Although all are very nice guns the 17AI is just perfect as a small game rifle with velocities going 3400fps with 25gn HP up to 3720fps with Hornady V-max Don't let anyone tell that these rifles lack 'power'; my 17AI can regularly knock down 200m steel chickens while fireforming cases.

I have to agree with Wallace, I have a .17 Rem. and am often surprised at the punch it can pack. My problem is that it's a fouling little sucker. If I don't clean it every 15 rounds or so, my accuracy goes to hell in a hand basket. I find that they will shoot well, but only when they want to. I can get a 5 shot group (100yds) of .4" and precede or follow it with a 1.2". For some reason I still like mine and would never trade it. I usually load it up to around 3900fps. It'll go faster but no sense in burning out the barrel. Best wishes. Cal - Montreal

Shawn, I just finished a new .17. Just because of the brass issue I chambered it for 17/222. I am using Lapua which I think is the best. What a great little cartridge the 17/222 is turning out to be. I have been teaching ground squirrels acrobatics with it. Boy do they learn fast. I have also taught a couple of coyotes to sit and stay. Very obedient animals when you apply the appropiate lesson plan. Jim
