How light and how much? A new Colt Light Rifle rebarreled to 6.5-06 will run around $350 plus the barrel which can vary all over the place. The only crappy thing on the rifle is the stock which works but people in cold country are finding the plastic breaks easily below a certain temp. Mel Forbes sells 3-6 Ultra Light Arms stocks (much lighter than the Colt factory stock)a month for the Colt. He keeps black ones in inventory. Special colors and length of pull are the same price but you have to wait a few weeks for production. That fixes that problem and you have a fine 5 lb rifle for less than 1/2 the cost of a new one from Mel. People would not be spending the extra $450 for his stock if they weren't happy with the basic gun.

The 6,5 x 55 was developed with a 160 grain projectile. The fast twist rate is to stabilize the heavier bullets. For accuracy work a 140 HPBT or 142 VLD bullet is normally used. I believe both Winchester and Ruger are presently selling rifles chambered for the 6,5 x 55. After the .260 fades away I believe the 6,5 x 55 will continue to soldier on. They got that round right the first time, 108 years ago.
