In my view, you have only 3 choices...

The .222
The .222 Remington
or the infamous "Triple Deuce"

I got mine because it WASN'T a .223 that cheapo foreign ammo was available for...

The Deuce is a classic round and is simply awesome for accuracy. A Hornady 40-grain VMax bullet with a max charge of Benchmark gives me 3,400 fps. No complaints so far from the varmints!

Break from the .223 crowd -- Get a Triple Deuce!

Thanks guys. I was leaning towards the 222 anyway. Pity the ppc isn't a bit more commercialised. I can't see myself being disappointed with the triple deuce. The local gun shop has one in a 700 action and another in Tikka.

If you don't handload, the .223 is the way to go. There are many diff. factory loads available so you can squeeze the accuracy out of your rifle you want for head shots @ 150yds.

I like the Hornet too, but I think it's @ it's best if you handload also nothing wrong w/ a good .22mag.

Right now I am doing fine w/o either a .223 ro a .308, but I wish I had one of those new M1A1 Socoms.

.221 Fireball.........will kill prairie dogs out to past 300yds., cheap to load for (350-400) rds per pound, as accurate as a .222 and not too loud in a rifle length. I like to watch my hits with little or no recoil. Remington, CZ and a few others have started offering it again.....mine is a Bullberry on a TC.
