This is a group I shot this afternoon with my Ruger #1 22/250.This is just an average group for this gun, certainly not the best group I have shot with it.Decided to save this one because there has been a lot of talk on these boards about these guns being inaccurate.Mine has had no mods to it mechanicaly (it has been restocked, and is actualy free floated extremely poorly by a previous owner),and shoots just fine,as you can see at this link-

Nice group. I have heard a lot about inaccurate Ruger No. 1's, but have never seen one myself. I have a 1B 7mm Rem Mag which shoots 1" groups AT 200 YARDS, had a 1V .25/'06 that shot like your .22/250, a 7X57 that'll do .75", a No. 3 .30/40 that shoots 1", and a .375 H&H that puts five into 1.5" @ 150 yards. Basically, I think Ruger single-shot rifles are, out-of-the-box, as good as any out-of-the-box bolt action.

Before the Ruger #1 came out us single shot riflemen were chasing every old Winchester High Wall down. This was very expensive. Most of these rifles were made into varmint rifles.

When the #1 came out it made an affordable single shot rifle available for big game hunting also as it has an ejector.

I read that some of the older Ruger rifles had "Wilson" barrels. I had a second rate barrel on a 1A but Ruger rebarreled it for about $125 and now it has a perfect chamber and a excellent barrel.

I would not hesitate to buy a new #1.

I've had my #1B in .25-06 since 1986. The only mods were a trigger job and a small screw on the tang under the barrel pushing up on the bottom of the barrel to stiffen it.

This rifle digests just about any 100 grainer very well, and I've shot 5/8" groups with ballistic tips.

Here a target from some handloads (left target)from one of my son-in-law. I'm trying to duplicate that.

Hey Brian, nice group! My #1 and a buddy's (both 218 bee) do the same thing all day long. I was somewhat leery about what kind of accuracy I was gonna get out of this rifle, but not no more. It REALLY shoots!
