I'm putting together a .260 Rem and want to shoot the 130gr Berger VLD. I know they are very long but are they so long that the typical available twist rates will cause trouble? --------------------------------- It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it

Berger publishes required twist rates on their website Berger Bullets That bullet requires a 1:10 twist, so yes it will work in standard twist (for that caliber) barrels. LWD

Personally I'd want a 8 or 8.5 preferably feeling a 9 may do fine. The 140 VLD need the faster to shoot best IMHO. Some mfg. twist 8, others 9, Browning I BELIEVE did some in 10 IIRC according to their printed specs i.e. 1885 Low Wall and perhaps the Abolts as well. Ruger has 8 twist 260s, Rem has 9 if that helps. Sounds like you are going custom and I'd strongly suggest going 8 to have no doubt you can sling ALL weights and do it well.

The 130 Bergers shoot ok in my 40x but the 139 Lapua has proved to be outstanding. Both stabilize well with a 1 in 9 twist. Free men should not be subjected to permits, paperwork and taxation in order to carry any firearm. NRA Benefactor

They stabilize quite well out of my 1:9 twist low wall.

when i was building my 6.5-284 a tech at shilen who shot the 130 grain vld in comp. recomended the 8 twist barrel so that is what i ordered i have been very happy with the results. bergers recomended twists are the slowest that will work with that bullet
