I just traded for a Remington 700 in 6MM rem. This is my first Remington center fire and the smallest center fire cartridge I own. I also have never owned a .243 bore in any cartridge. I'm thinking coyotes and it will be the 1st deer rifle for the princess.

What about bullet selection for the Wile E. ones?

Bullits for deer too.

Thanks I will hang up and listen.

Deer are well handled by the Nosler 100 grain partition, coyotes by the 85 grain Sierra soft point boat tail. Enjoy.

How about the 100 grain Corelokts (accurate and about the cheapest) for practice and coyotes and the 100 gr Nosler Partition for deer?

45otto,
You don't say if it is a short or long action. That would influence my bullet selection.
A couple of years ago, I stocked up on 100gr Remington corelocts when Midway had them on sale. They were my everything bullet. I tried the 100gr Partitions, but got better accuracy - and closer to the same POI - with the 95gr Partitions.
More recently, I've been test-driving some Berger 95gr VLDs. The accuracy is slightly better (maybe by 1/4"?) than either the corelocts or the Partitions. But, that's probably irrelevant, since they are all MOA, or less. What is relevant, is that the Bergers need to be seated a lot deeper to fit the magazine in my short action. Accuracy is downgraded a bit by this added jump. Loaded long, and single-loaded, they give the best accuracy. According to most everything I've read, they are excellent game bullets. I have yet to verify this myself (but I'm actively pursuing this now!) If I had a long action, they would be my first choice, hands down. HTH,,,,,,,,,,,Bug.

It's the little things that matter.

Deer: Any 90-100 grain bullet does fine. My favorite is the old Nosler 100 grain Solid Base. They aren't distributed through retailers any more, but you can buy them right now through Shooter's Pro Shop http://www.shootersproshop.com/index.php?p=11&b=8&s=320&t=Solid%20Base for only $6.95/box.

Any bullet you would use for deer will work fine for coyotes, too, but if you want a dedicated coyote and varmint bullet, the 70 grain BAllistic Tip and very similar Sierra Blitzking are great. However, there are LOTS of other good choices available to you.

I agree 100% with Vapodog! Even the big Axis deer in Hawaii were no match for my girls and the 100 Hornady I/Ls. Never went more than a few feet--mostly falling as they ran!

The Sierra 85-grain HPBT is an excelent bullet for all varmints, and strangely, it seems to do OK on deer as well......
