It's been a long time since I heard all the choices but Winchester loads a 63 gr pill for deer. Any premuim bullet load that might be out there should work, too. Like a TSX or the 60 gr Partition if you can find them in loaded ammo.

The trouble comes in finding a .223 rifle with a fast enough spin to shoot them well. If you have a 1-12 or faster you're home free. Some 1-14 guns have problems; some don't. Usually you can forget 1-16 for anything over 55 gr.

Been a while since I bought one new. Most were 1-14 back then.

Any good 55 grain SP or the 55 grain HP Sierra, any of the 60 grainers, the 63 grain Sierra, the 64 Win Power Point, the 65 grain sierra SP, the 70 grain Speer SP ( one of my favorite) and the 75 grain A Max.....

They are good for Oregon deer which are mainly blacktail.... some can argue on Mule Deer, but those herds are small.....Blacktail are the size of antelope usually....

The above are to add to the list posted by MB above.... all of those work great also.....

Just choose your shot placement...

I keep a 223 with a 60 grain V Max in the truck for deer in case one pops up driving down forest service roads that might be a keeper... it is in a compact Featherweight Winchester....little 2 x 7 Weaver Scope on it....

cheers

Seafire got most of em!! I have a bull barrel AR upper that will put the 64 gr Power Points on whichever rib you want and will kill right now out to 300 yards. It's hard to beat!!

I also have a NEF that I ran a AI reamer into and it shoots just as good to 300 yds. The 223 is a great deer killer, but you MUST put it in the right spot!!

That 55 grain trophy bonded round looks just about ideal out of the .223 Remington. We all can agree that 55 grains is probably the best weight for the .223 and the trophy bonded bullet has a great reputation for penetration and weight retention. All in all, you have a fine deer round there, and one that will probably be more accurate do to the low low recoil.
