I just wanted to know if anybody had any opinions or good information on the 100 grn bullet in the 260, particularly the Nosler BT and Partition. I never intended to use this light of a bullet, however, my 260 is slow twist and since it doesn't throw the heavy ones well thought that I might experiment with lighter one's now. I would use them for target shooting and hopefully for deer. Thanks in advance.

I can't see any reason the 100 grain partition won't kill deer for you....that said I'd be surprised if your gun wouldn't shoot the 120s and 140s as well. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I shot two deer last year in the span of 3 minutes with a 100 Ballistic Tip in my 260. Neither of them complained, they just fell where they were. I use the same load (41 grains of IMR4064) for coyotes as well. Since I live relatively close to Sierra, I stopped by there and bought some 107G Match bullets. I won't use them on deer, but the coyotes should love them. It's not the hotest load, but it works. The Nosler manual says that the 100gr Partition was created with the 260 in mind. I'd say that is a pretty good indicator that the bullet will perform at 260 velocities. I tried it in my 264 WM and 6.5 RM just for fun and it shoots very accurately, but I figure at those higher velocities it isn't a good idea for hunting deer. For the 260, I would probably use the 100gr boat tail only for target and varmint, but the 100 partition would be good for deer.

I had a bad result with 107 gr SMK on a coyote & wolf. Basically zero expansion and I lost the yote after a half mile track in the snow, and almost lost the wolf. I load 100 gr Nosler BT in 260 @ 3125 fps. Shot only one coyote with it, not fur friendly! Its accurate, and should work well on wolf and deer if you wished. 43 grains Varget is the load

What is your barrel's rate of twist? Most of my 260s are either Remington or Savage factory barrels and they all shoot 95 through 140 grain bullets without any problems. The 95 grain VMax is a super varmint/small deer bullet in the 260 and shoots well in every 260 that I've tried it in. Jeff

The 100gr Nosler partition was SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED for the 260Rem Cartridge. A Nosler Partition NOT perform? (I've decided to NOT ask Jeff Foxworthy's favorite question here) "at 260 Velocities"? Hmmm... >3300fps with three different propellants and real close with a 4th... What exactly did you have in mind as "260Rem Velocities"? As I've posted everytime the subject came up, if my house burned down and I lost my 6.5x55 AND my 25-06 (if I hadn't already sold it) I'd replace BOTH with ONE rifle chambered in 260Rem. The only advantage the 25-06 has over the 260Rem is that there is a greater selection of lighter varmint bullets, but that being said my 25-06's have always prefered the 87's over the 75's. I ve been using 100NBT's in my .260 and they work for me. This is a Tikka 595, with a Shilen 1:9 twist barrel (26") and a McM Swirly Sako Hunter stock. Fallow pricket, 90 lbs in the Larder , Bang ! Flop ! 3 legged fox.... The 100's work fine. T260

My model 7 in 260 gets a steady diet of 100gr hornady soft points. It kills adirondack whitetails with amazing regularity. Rick The tree huggers are out there. I've done well with the 100 grain ballistic tip, the 100 grain Hornady SP, the 100 grain Sierra HP, the 100 grain partition my load is 43.5 grains of 4064, which gives an MV of 3350 fps out of a 22 inch barrel and 3450 fps out of my 26 inch barreled 260 Rem VLS... 2 deer were taken in excess of 300 yds with the ballistic tip.. dropped them like a sack of potatoes, right in their tracks.. 43.0 grains of VARGET and the Nosler 100BT will do a number on a deer!! I've tested that load in 4 different Remington 700 DM SS(made 1999 and 2000 I think) and all four of them have turned in 5 shot groups under 8/10's inch! My daughter has 3 good bucks under her belt with this load, 271 yards(high shoulder), 195 yards(neck) and the one I wish I'd had a video of 12 pointer at 28 steps(neck shot.........ass hit the ground first!) she has yet to see a deer take a step after she pulls the trigger!! I've told her that at some point we may have to track one! But later on this AM, we will be in the stand again with her trusted 260 and that load. Then in the afternoon, I may be set up on a 5-600yd place using MY 260(VLS) with 140AMAX's ready to do the deal!! Those loads will be propelled with 45.0 grains of H4831sc.
