thinking of shortening the barrel on my steyr pro-hunter from 23.5 to 19.5 inches. anyone use a short .260 barrel and how is the accuracy.

i have one with a 20" barrel - doesn't seem any different than my other one with a 24". it is much handier in the brush

I agree with Butchloc.....get out the hacksaw and deburring tool to recrown!

i have a factory ruger M-77 S.S. .260 22". 42.0 grains RL-15 120 sierra 2920 shot over chroney.

Not me, I want the extra FPS. On any given barrel you will loose 20-30 fps. But then, I am a western hunter and never liked short barrels.

Chop it, get it threaded, screw on a Wildcat.

My 20" is great out to about 300 metres.

I get about 2800fps out of it if I recall correctly with a 120 BT over 45gr of AR2209 (H4350) and everything hit with it has fallen over within 30 yards. This has been red deer, fallow and goats.
