Wondering if anyone out there has used the Sierra 120g pro-hunter on deer, and would share their results. I just loaded a small batch I acquired and will zero them at the range next week before going after bambi.

Mike,

I took one with that bullet out of a 6.5 x 55 that was at 2800 MV. At 40 yds, it did way too much meat damage for me. The deer stumbled about 10 ft and was down for the count.

Did the job, but sort of explosive at higher velocity it seemed to me.

good luck with it

Thanks for the reply. I had the same experience with Hornadys light mag in .308 win. Most of my shots are 100 yds or less. I may just go to the Nosler partitions again, always pleased with their performance.

Hello Mike,

I think the Nosler Partition is the way to go. That or the Speer. We were always told, "Sierra from the bench, Speer in the field." That's pretty sound. Of course there were no Nosler
Partitions then. It's an excellent bullet. Best wishes.

I have used Sierras bullets in 6,5 x 55 ( Game king and Pro hunt) on red deers and they are to soft so they will cause to much damage in the meat.
Use speer instead!

I have used the 120 Gr. Ballistic tip from Nosler and have taken quite a few deer with that. It seems to do a good job.

I've had great success with the 140 Grain Nosler
Partition at 2500FPS out of my 6.5x55.

Funny, that 140gr. Nosler is one of the best grouping bullets in my rifle. While I was disappointed with the velocity, it has always killed the deer with through and through penetration and little meat damage. I guess I am just trying to experiment a little. Mike.

I use this bullet in my daughter's 6.5-284 at 6.5x55 velocities without a problem. It works great for deer and I never have much, if any, meat damage. I just don't drive them at top speed. About all I drive them at is 2600-2700 fps. No recoil for my daughter either. She shot a 170lb doe this year through the heart at 75 yards and it only took three steps.
