I bought a new rifle today. Its an FN factory chamberd for the .257 Roberts. before you get to excited it has been restocked or I would not have been able to afford it. As it was the guy was asking 700.00. Down from 750.00. I talked him down to 500.00 and I would not have gone any higher. It has a Timney trigger and the steel still looks prety good. A little surface rust but nothing to wory about. I took it to a local smith beacuse the rear hole was in the wrong place for a 1 pc leupold so I will have another hole drilled for a 2 pc. It has a 24 inch barrel and the stock is not bad but sombody cut it at 12.25 inches and then spliced in a hunk back out to 13.00 If I want to I could just replace the splice with a 1 inch pad and be right around 13.25 witch is prety good for me. The serial # is 5 digits starting with a 1. Sooner or later i will probably restock it but I think the one it came with will be fine for a while. This will be my 3rd 25 caliber rifle, I hope It is less fussy about loads than my other Roberts it only like 1 load thats a 100 tsx over H 414, or my 25,06 witch only seems to like a 117 gr sierra, but I will play with it some more. I want to shoot the 110 grain accubond but have not had any luck so far.. I am also thinking of AI ing the FN...tj3006 freedom1st

I saw a used Belgian FN rifle in 243Win with a "Harrington & Richardson" marked barrel The asking price was in the $500 range. I wasn't terribly interested so I didn't look as closely as I probably should have. there was also a LEFTHAND Dakota Varmint rifle in 22-250, but for $1129?.... USED? PM sent. I might be off a bit on the price, I know it was $11xx, and at that point I was more interested in the fact that it was a copy of a CRF Winchester/Mauser type rifle with a winchester swinging safety... WAY out of my price range... there was a RH Remington with a straight taper medium heavy barrel on it that I fell in love with... TJ- Did you find this at the Expo show in Portland this weekend? Nice find. I was unable to get time off work to go. Was there much interesting stuff there? JimD

Jerry Koch from Redmond has had it for many months. I've considered it many times as I like the .257. My 257's also prefer the 117 gr Sierra boat tail. I would have changed it to Ackley Improved. There was a mint 410 LC Smith which came through the door and went to a new owner for $4K which will resaell soon for $6-6.5K. Then there was a real masterpiece which came through the door. A mint caplock double sidelever with incredible engraving and carving with magnificent gold work and fabulously engraved animals. The barrel was damascas with raised longitudinal ridges and simply fabulous design. Jerry will have it at the Apr Vegas show and photos at the Tulsa show. My guess will be in the $25-50K range. Of course, the gun of the show was my Searcy 470 with extra set of 12 Ga barrels which is still available.

Thumper 470 has it right ! Were you at the north end of Jerrys table ? I was rather suprised when i got him to go for my price. I am not sure if I will AI it or not. I am gonna try and find a take off stock. Its a some what rare rifle in the Roberts and with a factory stock it might be be worth a prety good buck. I like the Idea of an AI but looking at the manuals I have come to the conclusion that the only manual that loads the Roberts up near its potential is the Barnes and the gap beetween the standard and the AI shrinks a lot when you load the roberts up to the same presures as the 270. ...tj3006 freedom1st

Yes, I had the end cap table on the North end of Jerry's tables. I once had a mint 1951 FN in 250-3000. That was the only one I ever saw. Here is an interesting load in Ackley's book: 49 gr 4350 117 Gr=3120 fps Ackley lists the 257 W'by with the same bullet: 65 gr 4350=3210 fps So the W'by version gives you 90 fps more with 16 more grains of the same powder with the same bullet. My mistake, I was just down there and that Dakota isn't $1199, it was $1999... Like that's any better..... AllanD If I provoke you into thinking then I've done my good deed for the day!
