Kind of a misleading header for my post.
But i was going to try the 90 grain speer that was made for the slow twist Remington .244s in my .243
I cant find any. So are there any other bullets designed for that purpose ?
Maybe the 85 grain sierra ?

See if you can locate some of the old Nosler 85 grain Solid Bases. They are long out of production and pretty scarce, but now and again they show up.

If you can't find any I can probably spare a box, but I am in Arkansas and all my toys are in TX, so it would be a month or so.

Send me a pm if I can help. I have a world of 6mm projectiles; might have some lighter Nosler partitions as well...

I've had good luck with the 85 gr Partition in mine. I have also used a ton of 100 gr, Corelokts. Currently using the Partitions.

I never liked the way the 90 grain Speer worked (or didn't) on deer. The off-side always looked like I'd used a 20 ga! Multiple shots were the norm with the Speer but with the 85 Partition it was "one and done"!

100 grain cup and core, Remington or Winchester---all you need, but wait, the .244 doesn't stabilize the 100's thus the 6MM created, you're stuck with the lighter bullets.

85 grains or less in the old 244's

IMO, the only 6mm bore bullet that will reliably kill deer has to have a hollow point or be something made like a Nosler ballistic tip. My kids and I have shot several deer with 100 grain Rem Corelokt bullets out of a 243Win that I bought for them to deer hunt with and they were good clean shots through the heart or lungs and finding the carcass was a minor miracle (well almost), and we never did find one that was shot with this bullet. However, I have shot a couple with the 70 grain Nosler BT out of my 6mmRem and both were DRT.

The old-style (30 yr. ago) Hornady 87 gr. bullets worked fine. They had a heavier jacket that kept them from coming apart. Not sure whether you could find any of them, though. Also not sure of the design of the current bullets.

Try some 100's. You might be surprised. Some 244's shoot them well.

If I remember correctly, they recommended a round nosed bullet. I don't know if they make a RN 100gr bullet or not.

I used the Hornady 87-grain SP for years in one of my 6mms, it held together well on deer and feral goats. If the design has not changed it would be my choice if 100s did not shoot well enough.

The 95-grain Partitions should work very well in the OP's .243 rifle.

Try several different bullets types but if you are intent on short bullets that may stabilize easier stay away from Boat Tails and Hollow Points as well as plastic tips and copper bullets. All of these things make bullets longer.
An 85-90 grain flat base Spitzer will probably do what you need.

I bought some 95 grain Partitions,
And some 87 grain Hornady Flat base bullets.
I think there is a misunderstanding here.
My rifle is a .243 , i just want to find a lighter weight bullet that will work for deer.
I could not find either the 90 grain speer or a 85 grain partition.
The hornady book shows the 87 grain Flat base as a dual purpose varmint and deer bullet.
I think it would be good for the coastal black tail bucks here in Oregon.
But i would want the partition for mule deer...tj3006

Stay away from those "dual" bullets. And, the 95 gr SST, too!

Get a properly constructed bullet for big game.

I've had very good luck with the 85 partitions as well as the 90 gr Accubonds. Stuff some 4064 under them or 4350 and you'll have an accurate load that will drop deer quickly

Some 244s actually have 10" twist barrels too. I use 87s for whitetails, axis, the 244/6mm my favorite round for such.

Try the 75 or 80 gr. GS customs HP..its been accurate in every thing I have shot it in. It works in the .243 Win. and is a real sho nuff deer killer.. Ive shot a number of deer with it in my 6x45. and a .243...

Everyone is getting confused with the OP's post. I understand he is using a 243 Win not a 244 Rem but is looking for some of the heavier bullets that were made for the 244 Rem that he could try in his 243 Win.

So forget what works or doesn't in a 244 Rem, just bullets under 100grs that were made for the 244 Rem that may work well in a 243 Win.

Did I get that right?

Some of my hunter friends using 243's on red deer, tahr and chamois found the 90-95 grain bullets killed much quicker in the 243 Win than any 100 grainer.

I think my approach was wrong !
But what the hell. So far my Ruger american does not like Heavy bullets.
It is around 1.5 for 3 shots. And I tried 3 powders.
Bought some 90 grain Balistic tips yesterday.

The 85gr Sierra HPBT is quite stout and seems to be a popular choice here for body shots (usually in the 243). A few of my buddies shoot them.

There is also the 85gr Partition and several bonded designs - Scirocco 90gr and Hornady 87gr as I recall. Of those the Scirocco is the one to choose if it shoots in the rifle in my opinion.

I've had outstanding results with 87gr Bergers out of my Rem. Model 7 .243. Berger is also making the "Classic Hunter" now. That is available in 95gr. Either bullet is designed for the 1:10" twist. DRT results with the 87gr on whitetails out to 300yds. 130-165# deer.
