After hearing all of the comments about ugly yet accurate Savage rifles, I decided to give one a try. Actually I already had a Savage Striker, in .308 Win, so I wasn't totally clueless on Savage centerfire firearms. So, I purchased a 16 FSS(Weather Warrior Series), in .22-250 Rem. As has been reported in the past, the synthetic stocks, from Savage are a little "rough". I took my random orbital finishing sander to it, and when I was done, I had a very nice smooth matte synthetic stock. So with the stock "finished", I mounted a 6x24 Bushnell 4200, on a one piece Leupold base, to the Savage, and headed to the range. I hand loaded some 55 gr. Win FMJBT bullets, over 33.0 gr of Varget, for break-in ammo. After aligning the scope mounts, and the scope, I put a rough zero on the scope at 50 yards, and developed a problem with the gun. It keeps putting the bullets in the same hole! I have to really get to wiggling off the rest, to get a group that I can actually count the bullet holes Soon I will get to a 100 yard range, with some higher quality components in the ammo, where I can see if I still have this one hole problem! I am starting to warm up to the Accu-Trigger, but I sure wish I could get it under 1 lb of force. Damn Lawyers! All in all, I am once again quite happy with an Ugly Savage firearm. My Striker is a 1 MOA hand gun, pushing a 130 gr Barnes X Bullet at 2775 fps. I believe the 16 FSS is going to have itty bitty groups, when I find it's favorite bullets, and powder. It already is making itty bitty groups, and I am just break-in the barrel with cheap bullets. Oh that Bushnell 4200 Elite, which is a first of that brand/model for me...Well time will tell as to it's reliability, but clear and bright, it is all of that. Squeeze | ||
