I just ordered a .260 Rem. The vast majority of its hunting will be for whitetails here in Virginia. Just looking for experiences with particular bullets and their performance. Also, any powders that seem "just right" for this cartridge. Thanks Ken

the 120 grainers have worked well for me with a bit of 4350 behind them. 4831 will work well too. 260 isn't at all fussy

130gr Bergers are deer killing machines. 39gr of IMR-4064 works well in mine. IMR-4064, Varget and IMR-4350 all work well with various bullets. Congrats on an excellent choice. Free men should not be subjected to permits, paperwork and taxation in order to carry any firearm. NRA Benefactor

I killed my last two with 100 grain Ballistic Tips, but I would opt for the 120s. That's what I would have used if I had not been coyote hunting at the time. I like IMR4064, but AA4350 works as well. Ken, I have a spreadsheet a guy made that shows lots of loads, speeds and groups. I'll be happy to share it with anyone who desires it.

Our hunting buddy, the late and much lamented Slingster, used 125 NPTs on North Dakota whitetails for several years with no troubles. He even played with 160 gr roundnose softs which some folks say won't stabilize in the Remington Seven's 1:9 twist but he got nice groups at 100 yards and a cooler full of venison that year.

I'm going to attempt to develop a load with 120 gr. TSX bullets.

Ken, I don't know what part of western Virginia you are at.. I am originally from about 100 miles west of Roanoke, and 50 miles northeast of Bluefield... I have hunted there a few times with family... but it has been a while... but I do have a lot of 260 Rem experience... for flat shooting, open country, or close range.. .I run 100 grain bullets with a charge of 43.5 grains of IMr 4064..... out of a 25/06, they normally run a 100 grain bullet out of those at 3300 fps... the load above out of a 260, will run 3350 fps out of a 22 inch Ruger Barrel and 3450 fps out of a 26 inch Rem VLS barrel... I have shot several deer from a rest at over 300 yds, and they dropped straight down... recoil was also light enough that I never lost sight picture of the deer from within the scope during recoil... I have had zero bullet failures...and have taken deer with the 100 grain Sierra HP, the Hornady SP, the Nosler Ballistic Tip, the Nosler Partition, and I have an old box of the briefly offered Barnes 100 grain X bullet.. I have used the 120s, 125, 129,. 140 and 160 grain bullets.... If I had to use just two, the choice would be the 125 partition for big stuff, and the 100 grainers of any of the above manufacturers with the charge of 43.5 grains of IMR 4064.... as far as accurate in my rifles.. 3/8 inch to sometimes 1/4 in groups are not unusual...

Yup, that would be the load I use as well. Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson

My M700 loves 120 TSX with either Varget or 4064. Kills deer dead.

I have had great success with the Nosler 120 grain ballistic tip over 47 grains of reloder 19. This comes from the Nosler reloading manual and shoots .5 moa in my Remington Mountain rifle. Great load!

43 grains of VARGET behind the 100 grain Noslers is a winner in 3 different Remington 700 SS/DM 24" barrel rifles it's been tested in both on paper and on MEAT! The load of 47 grains of Reloader 19 behind the 120's(mentioned earlier) is an accuracy load also and the only deer(vermin) I've seen shot with this load thru the boiler room made it exactly 20 feet before the collapse!! (I've got one 260 that is set up exclusively for the 120's and this load, 24" stainless/fluted CDL)GHD(PS: and I'm not a Nosler BT fan because I've seen a myriad of end results from Nosler BT's over the years. I need to shoot more deer(vermin) with Sierra GK's to see if they perform the same in 6.5 caliber as they do in .257) Groundhog Devastation(GHD)

I have a remington M7 in .260 (syn/SS). While i have found it to be a bit finicky shooting the 125g Partitions, i have managed to come up with a few good loads for it. For the 125grain Nosler Partitions, I am currently using remington cases and CCI-200 primers. I am using 44.5gr of IMR-4350 and i'm getting 2851 fps avg with a spread of only 13.9 fps for 5 shots. It consistently shoots between .5-.8" at 100 yards which is plenty good enough for hunting. I have tried RE-19, Varget and H4350 with the 125grain paritions but haven't gotten the accuracy like i have with the IMR-4350. I tried load of 46.4grains of RE-19 but it grouped about 1.25". I have also tried 130 grain Barnes TSX's with 44.5g of RE-19 but it was turning 2" groups at 100. I am in the process of working up a load for the 120g Ballistic tip and also 130g Accubonds for the upcoming fall. Lastly, take heed of Groundhog Devastation's advice- he knows what he's talking about and has done a considerable amount of load development for these .260's. Ruck Ruck
